Port Cooperation in Karachi Port

Karachi International Container Terminal Company, a subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa Port Group, has reached an agreement with Karachi Port Trust Company (KPT) to jointly develop the third phase project of Karachi Port West Terminal in Pakistan (part of the expansion project of Karachi International Container Terminal).

Hutchison Whampoa's port business has achieved fruitful results, successfully winning the second phase of Ningbo Port in the Mainland and Bajiao Port in Yantai, and frequently involved in overseas projects such as bulk cargo terminal in Gdynia Port in Poland and container terminal in Britain.

In addition to extending the franchise period of the existing terminal, the agreement also includes the deep excavation of the coastal waters to 65,438+04m, the improvement of the terminal's handling capacity by rebuilding additional land, and the addition of new shore cranes and yard equipment.

After the completion of the expansion project, Karachi International Container Terminal will have 7 shore cranes, 20 tire gantry cranes, 8 stackers, 6 empty container front cranes, 48 trailers, 64 trailers, 6 forklifts and a number of radio communication equipment.

Regarding the cooperation with Hutchison Whampoa, Mr. Ahmed Hayat, Chairman of KPT, said that Pakistan's container transport industry has developed rapidly, and the throughput in 2007 exceeded 1 10,000 TEU, which is on the verge of saturation. It is timely to develop the third phase project of Karachi Port West Wharf. At the same time, the status of Pakistani ports as regional trade centers will also be strengthened.

Hullam. Abbas, CEO of Karachi International Container Terminal, said that he would work closely with Pakistani Customs to launch an automated customs clearance system to shorten the container's stay time at the terminal.

Hutchison Whampoa has five core industries, namely ports, telecommunications, real estate and hotels, retail and manufacturing, energy and infrastructure. Its port business covers 18 countries, and five of the seven busiest ports in the world are operated by Hutchison Whampoa.

According to the 2003 annual report, Hutchison's port business turnover was HK$ 2,365.438+0.29 billion, an increase of HK$ 2,557 million or 65,438+0.2%. [
