So when I received an invitation from NetEase Yanxuan and Tujia.com to renovate a B&B in Houhai, I came with a half-appreciation and half-challenge mentality, just to see if I could be alone here. A unique house has been given a new look.

01 Retro style, some are happy and some are sad

The renovation is a single-family double-story courtyard at No. 1, Nanyan. As you can see, the outside looks like no one has taken care of it. The old warehouse looks old and even a little dilapidated on the outside; the interior is made of gray bricks from the old Beijing city wall, with log-colored floors, furniture, and hanging paintings.

At first glance, the retro feel is very strong, but the overall tone of the decoration style is a bit old-fashioned and heavy, and there is less of a bright feeling when entering the room from the outside.

The B&B owner told us that B&B customers are mainly young people. Some young people will find this retro-old style a novelty to try, while some young people find this style visually uncomfortable. , lacking the warm atmosphere that a residence should have.

02How to use carefully selected “aesthetics” to create a simple and comfortable retro B&B?

After a round of visits to the B&B, we started to renovate the living room.

We chose the dark gray sofa combination carefully selected by NetEase to replace the original blue sofa. It matches the old gray brick wall in the living room. While the different textures of gray bring a sense of hierarchy, the color becomes more... Harmonious unity.

The living room has a large area of ??log-colored floor, so I chose to combine it with the carefully selected solid wood furniture of the Yuansu series to enhance the overall sense of space.

At this point, the large furniture has basically been changed to the Nordic style that is currently popular, getting rid of the old-fashioned and monotonous, and also showing the "simple fashion beauty" carefully selected by NetEase just right.

In a relatively small space, the most important combination with large furniture is lamps and hanging paintings.

Therefore, we chose a more modern Nordic black multi-head living room chandelier and a Beijing map poster with black, white and gold as the main colors. Such a large area of ??black and white linear hanging paintings can balance the overly heavy brick and wood texture.

03 Regarding the bedroom for rest and living, what do tourists pay more attention to?

Before renovating the B&B, I solicited opinions from my friends in the hotel industry to find out what preferences most people have for bedroom decoration during the trip. The conclusion drawn is that in addition to the warmth of home, there is also a sense of freshness and quality. The former is easy, while the latter mainly depends on details.

The original chandelier and bed in the bedroom are very old. In order to create a warm atmosphere, we chose a mix of pink pillows and intellectual gray series bedding to create a Nordic-style geometric painting on the bedside background. Echoing the colors, the tone of the bedroom is also unified.

A small golden glass ball chandelier is used on one side of the bed, and a carefully selected "Moon Top" table lamp is placed on the bedside table on the same side, breaking the original dullness with an asymmetrical pattern.

The original old dressing mirror on the bedside table was removed and replaced with carefully selected small and exquisite objects such as scented candles to match the space of the small chandelier The location also frees up space for passengers to use without being restricted.

In addition, for the small accessory furniture, we chose black and gold wrought iron lightweight wardrobes, shelves, and flower pot brackets. The carefully selected materials such as preserved flowers, scented candles, and bath towels and bathrobes make the hotel's details full of quality, bringing a trendy "fashionable young style" into the retro-style B&B.

After the renovation was completed, I specially entered the B&B again from the outside to appreciate the "works". What is more gratifying is that the contrast effect is similar to what I expected.

Originally, the B&B had a monotonous and heavy retro style. Through changes in colors, materials, and accessories, the entire space presents a rich sense of layering, as well as light and flexible aesthetic features.
