The police have an obligation to protect the privacy of hotel guests.

Unless the public security organs take compulsory residential surveillance measures in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Law of People's Republic of China (PRC).

At the same time, Article 20 stipulates that the people's police divulge citizens' personal information obtained by making, distributing, inspecting and seizing resident identity cards, thus infringing upon citizens' legitimate rights and interests. One of the following acts shall be given administrative sanctions according to the seriousness of the case.
