Moral Interpretation of Lucky Cat
Raise your right hand: male cat, lucky, home use.
Raise your left hand: female cat, recruit customers, use industry. During the Edo period, there was a famous family called Yuegu, who made a living by dyeing cloth. Master Yuegu's two favorite things are gambling and playing with his cat Xiaoyu. It was because of this hobby that Yuegu quickly lost it.
His housekeeper was very sad to see such a scene, and often advised his young master to put his family career first and not indulge in gambling and fun all day. But the young master didn't agree, and retorted, "Since there is a story about the crane paying off debts, when there is no money at home, his kitten Xiaoyu will go out to look for money, so don't worry too much about anything." Whenever the housekeeper advised him, he played with the kitten and never listened to the housekeeper's advice.
Later, Yuegu really fell, and Yuegu became nothing. The housekeeper was afraid that the young master would be sad and advised him to cheer up. Unexpectedly, Yuegu actually picked up the kitten and said with a smile, Xiaoyu, you haven't forgotten our agreement, have you? Get some gold coins! The next day, Xiaoyu really came back with a gold coin in her mouth. The housekeeper and Yuegu are very happy. At this time, the housekeeper advised Yuegu to say, Master, take this gold coin and do it well! As a result, Yuegu Shaozhu went gambling again.
This gold coin didn't bring him good luck. He lost everything before going home. Yuegu said to Yu, Xiaoyu, bring me another gold coin! I will make good use of it this time, and I won't gamble any more. Xiaoyu hesitated, and then slowly walked away.
The next day, the kitten came back with a gold coin in her mouth. Yuegu rushed out happily with this gold coin and went straight to the casino without looking back, ready to make money. As a result, Echigoya came back depressed this time and lost everything. As soon as I entered the door, I saw the housekeeper in a panic and said, "Xiaoyu may be sick and lazy all day." Yuegu rushed into the room, looked at Xiaoyu lovingly, and saw Xiaoyu slowly open his eyes and lick Yuegu. Yuegu is also relieved. The housekeeper went on to say, little master, don't you think Xiaoyu seems to be getting thinner and thinner? That's weird. But Yuegu ignored the housekeeper, held the kitten high and said, Xiaoyu, just one more. I believe I will do well this time. Xiaoyu glanced at Yuegu lazily and walked away slowly, but at this moment Yuegu was thinking: I don't know where Xiaoyu got these gold coins. If I go with her, I will have inexhaustible gold coins in the future, so I decided to look after her.
The next morning, Xiaoyu went out, but this time Yuegu followed at a distance. The kitten walked around the city for a long time and crossed several rivers. Finally, she went into the Woods and stopped in front of a temple. She raised her hands, folded them in prayer, and then muttered to herself. Echigoya hid behind the Woods and was a little surprised to see the strange behavior of the kitten. So he walked slowly forward, only to hear the kitten read: Take some hands, take some feet, give me some gold coins, take some bellies, take some hair, give me some gold coins … As the kitten read these words, she became thinner and smaller. Just then, Yuegu was awakened and rushed out of the Woods screaming to stop Xiaoyu from chanting. Xiaoyu looked back at him and continued to read: Take some hands, take some feet, give me some gold coins, take some belly, take some hair, give me some gold coins. At last the kitten disappeared, leaving only three gold coins on the ground. Yuegu then picked up the gold coins on the ground and cried bitterly, regretting his previous behavior.
From then on, Yuegu is like a different person, working hard all day, and the money earned will not be spent casually. Yuegu always said: Xiaoyu can sacrifice herself to touch me. How can I not work hard? Later, through the efforts of Yuegu, Yuegu's family slowly flourished again. Because Yuegu always puts a statue of a cat with gold coins in front of the door, people in that area follow Yuegu. Haode Temple in Setagaya, Tokyo, known as the "Cat Temple" with "prosperous business and safe home", is a famous lucky cat temple in Japan, and there are lucky cats worshipped by believers everywhere.
But in the early days of Edo, Haode Temple was a declining temple. At that time, the abbot kept a cat "Yu", and the abbot loved it very much and treated it like flesh and blood. One day, the abbot inadvertently said to Yu: Yu Temple is very poor. Can you bring me luck? A few days later, Naoki Inoue, the duke, and his family passed the gate of Haode Temple on the falcon's way home. They were surprised to see a cat holding hands and greeting them, so they dismounted and went to the temple to rest.
Just as Qi Huangong entered the temple, he just received the tea from the abbot, and it began to rain and thunder outside. The abbot took advantage of the storm and preached a sermon. After the rain stopped, Jing Yi, the duke, was very happy. He said to the abbot, "It was the cat that lured us in and saved us from the thunderstorm, and we were treated by the abbot. This is probably a karma. "
Later, under the protection of the Jing family, the incense began to flourish in Haode Temple. After his death, the abbot built a tomb for him and asked someone to carve a cat image, calling it a "lucky cat". There used to be a geisha named Dr. Bo Yun in Kyrgyzstan. She had a tricolor cat named TAMA. Bo Yun can't live without that cat every day. Even if Bo Yun goes to the toilet, the cat will follow. So some boring people began to spread rumors that cats can fascinate people, and that cats were possessed in thin clouds.
Jiroemon, the owner of San Pu House, a brothel, was afraid that Bo Yun was really possessed by a cat and ordered him to throw away the jade. But Bo Yun doesn't take it seriously and loves "jade" as always. So one day, the brothel owner drew his sword and beheaded the cat's head while Jade followed Bo Yun into the toilet. Just as Jed's cat head flew down, the owner found that the cat head was biting the head of a snake. Only then did he know that Xiaoyu had been following the toilet to protect her master Bo Yun.
Bo Yun was so sad that he sent the remains of "Jade" to the temple and set up a cat burial sacrifice. Later, a Japanese tourist from Tang Qiao's home sympathized with Bo Yun's sadness and specially ordered Thymus from Nagasaki, carved it into the shape of a lucky cat and gave it to Bo Yun, who couldn't put it down.
After Bo Yun's death, this woodcarving lucky cat was sent to a temple dedicated to jade, accompanied by real jade. However, if there is a fire in the temple in the future, the evidence will be gone. There is a money exchange shop in Edo. Master Tian Xisaburo keeps a cat named Yu. The cat is very close to the young fishmonger who goes in and out of his master's house. Every day, when the fishmonger sells fresh fish in the host's house, he always throws a fresh fish to Yu. One day, the fishmonger was seriously ill, because he was a bachelor, and because there was a trend of "no money to spend the night" in Edo, that is, he was drunk as mud now, so the fishmonger could not even afford the medical expenses, and his life was unsustainable.
Just after the fishmonger sent all the valuable furniture to the pawnshop, it was almost time to stop cooking. The fishmonger found a paper bag on the pillow and opened it. There are two gold coins in it. A few months later, the fishmonger recovered, and he planned to discuss with the owner of the money exchange shop to raise money again. When he came to the owner's house of the money changer, there was no sign of "jade". Upon inquiry, I realized that two or two gold coins had been stolen from the store, which aroused mutual suspicion among the employees. The owner set up a tight encirclement to search and found that "Jade" tried to sneak out of the house with gold coins in her mouth several times, so the owner had to put "Jade" to death. Suddenly, the fishmonger understood everything, so he told the shopkeeper what had happened. The shopkeeper suddenly realized that the purpose of "Jade" sneaking out with gold coins was to prepare funds for fishmongers.
Later, the fishmonger became famous. In order to commemorate "Jade", a cat burial was set up at the Ekin Temple in Tokyo Tojo, and it was named "Little Judge Cat". In the middle of the Edo period, there was a brothel with a silver painted cat on its door in the area between Lany and China (Motian District).
Later, someone followed the example of the silver cat brothel and opened a golden cat brothel next to it. There is a golden painted cat in front of the store, and the business is as prosperous as before. The owner of the silver cat brothel lingered in the casino and finally lost all his money. So he ordered his wife and a group of people with eight soldiers to cheat the shopkeeper of Five Blessingg store (kimono store). I didn't expect a group of people to fall in love for a long time and really fell in love with eight soldiers. In the case that this kind of love can't get married, the two decided to die of double suicide. So, the two left a suicide note in the silver cat brothel.
This double suicide incident caused a sensation throughout Edo, and it was written as a script of Pure Glass (a kind of Daobai drama in traditional Japanese music, which evolved into a puppet Pure Glass drama in Edo period), and it was also put on the stage and was very popular. It is said that this kind of double suicide event is the source of decorating lucky cats in Hualiu Street. Brothels often put a big gold and silver "lucky cat" in front of the door to attract guests. So some books use "attracting cats" instead of "brothels". There are two giant lucky cats in front of Imado Shrine in Imado, Taitung District, Tokyo. Imperial sacrifice to God is the founding father of Japan, Izino, and the spouse goddess Izumo. There are two "affinity cats" contacted by lucky cats in the hospital. The patch represents the male god and the pure white represents the goddess, which is the charm of a good marriage. The two cats are holding their right hands. Usually, raising your right hand means getting lucky, and raising your left hand means attracting guests.
According to legend, an old lady in Asakusa had an old cat. Due to the death of her wife and financial difficulties, she had to rely on her relatives. The old woman had a dream that night after saying goodbye to the old cat with tears in her eyes. In the dream, the old cat told her mother-in-law that if she was made an idol, she would come naturally. The old lady listened to the old cat's dream, enshrined the cat idol on the shrine, and bowed down with her hands folded at night. Then, as the old cat said, good news followed, and the old woman no longer had to rely on others. Later, the rumor that the old woman became rich because of the cat idol immediately spread to her neighbors, and people came to borrow her cat idol every day. So the old woman asked the kiln owner to make pottery lucky cats, and opened a shop in Asakusa to sell the lucky cats cooked by this family. At that time, this family was burning lucky cats in Asakusa, and the business was very prosperous.
Legend has it that the lucky cat of Thymus Boyun holds the left hand. Therefore, the lucky cat made by the old woman, in order to distinguish it from the lucky cat made by Boyun, specially changed the cat's hand for washing face into the right hand.
