Place names of Rainbow Square

Before the Song Dynasty, memorial archways were mostly the main entrance of Li Fang, Mausoleum and Confucian Temple, or as signs of bridges and avenues, and there were few memorial buildings for commendation. After the mid-Ming Dynasty, Deng Ke Square, Xiao Jie Square, Jie Zhen Square and other memorial archways gradually increased.

Rainbow Plaza, located in the west section of Rainbow Road in Jiangdong, Ningbo, is a stone archway with three bays. In the 23rd year of Jiaqing in Qing Dynasty (l8l8), the Qing court was established to commemorate Bao, the wife of Wu.

The Wu family had an argument when building the memorial archway. Wu lived in Jiangdong and started his business. After several generations of painstaking efforts, Wu Damao's sauce garden shop was already famous in Wu. Wu died young and his wife Bao was widowed. He raised his six-month-old son and taught him to learn poetry, so he became an official. After Bao's death, the Wu family, as a glorious family, established a "filial piety square" in front of the Wu ancestral hall. At that time, Rainbow Road was narrow and the river was in the east. The archway occupied the road when it was built. Pedestrians often encounter roadblocks and complain endlessly. Soon, people collapsed and had a quarrel with Wu Qiyuan. Hundreds of people in the village wanted to move the archway, but Wu Qiyuan bullied others and even angered everyone in the name of the court seal. Wu wanted to tear down the archway, and seeing that everyone was tough, he invited Kong, the magistrate of Yinxian County, to go with him. A few days later, Wu Qiyuan turned a blind eye to the magistrate of a county, and hundreds of people in the neighborhood gathered in front of the archway every few days. Wu knew that it was difficult to solve this problem with his bare hands, so he wanted to get through the joints and prepare gifts to bribe the magistrate of a county. After seeing the ceremony, Kong Zhifu promised to finish it, and sent the chief officers one by one to take four people to the county street first. They were accused of "making trouble", each of them played 20 boards, and were ordered to "not make trouble" in the future.

Wu Weiguo built an altar of chastity, and the result was reviled. Rainbow Square consists of pillars, foreheads, skewers, arches, sparrows and other main objects, and is composed of four pillars and three floors. Magnificent, simple and solemn. The middle two columns are about 5.70 meters high, and the columns on both sides are about 4.25 meters high, which are octagonal. The signboard of the Ming dynasty is engraved with the word "filial piety" in regular script, with a bucket arch on its forehead. With the help of high relief, through carving, flowers, animals, people's stories and other patterns and decorations are set on the forehead and other objects respectively. The carved patterns and decorations are very delicate, giving people a vivid feeling. The tail of the main building and the left and right sub-buildings (the tail of the main building) provide important examples for experts and scholars to study the stone architecture and sculpture art in Qing Dynasty.
