Can I use a copy of my ID card to open a hotel room?

Legal analysis: A copy of ID card can't stay in hotels.

Legal basis: Article 14 of the Regulations on Public Security Administration of Hotel Industry requires hotel reception and accommodation to be registered. When registering, check the identity documents of the lodgers, and truthfully register the name, gender, nationality, address, type and number of valid identity documents, room number, check-in and check-out time and other information one by one. If the lodger is abroad, his nationality (region) and date of birth shall also be registered. The registered information shall be transmitted to the public security organ in real time through the hotel security management information system. The hotel and its staff shall ensure the normal operation of the front desk equipment of the hotel security management information system. If it is impossible to register or upload the information of lodging personnel due to system failure, it shall immediately report to the public security organ, register relevant letters and submit them to the public security organ within eight hours. The hotel should clearly stipulate the obligations of the accommodation staff in a prominent position.
