Historical evolution

The Zhou Dynasty was the state of Teng. Qin established Teng County. It is named after the ancient country. Teng means spring water surging. According to "Shuowen Jiezi": "Teng, water overflows, because the ground is close to the water and gathers together." In 1988, it was renamed Tengzhou City.

Tengzhou has a long history. It was the land of "Three Kingdoms and Five Towns" in ancient times and is known as the "Little Country of Teng". Teng originated from the Yellow Emperor and got its name from the "surging" spring water in the territory. After the Zhou Dynasty destroyed the Shang Dynasty, King Wu granted his half-brother Shuxiu the title of "Teng Kingdom". After the Qin Dynasty unified the six kingdoms, it abolished feudalism and established counties and counties, and established Teng County and Xuexian County in today's Teng territory. In the early Han Dynasty, Emperor Gaozu analyzed Xiaobo and established Fan County, but the Western Jin Dynasty still followed the Han system. Jin established Tengyang Prefecture, which was later renamed Tengzhou, and governed Teng, Pei, Zouxian and Taoyang Town. Tengzhou was abolished in the early Ming Dynasty. In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was the seat of the Tengxian County Commissioner's Office. In 1953, the Teng County Special Administrative Office was abolished and Teng County was changed to the Jining Special Administrative Office. In 1979, it was transferred to Zaozhuang City and continues to this day. On March 7, 1988, with the approval of the State Council, Teng County was abolished and Tengzhou City was established.

Before and after the founding of the People's Republic of China, the administrative divisions of Tengzhou changed greatly. From 1945 to 1949, it was Teng County, Fushan County, Baiyan County and Lincheng County. In 1951, Lincheng County was changed to Xuecheng County. In September 1953, Baiyan County was abolished, and the five districts under its jurisdiction, including Xuzhuang, which originally belonged to Teng County, were assigned to Teng County; Weishan County was established, and the lake area under the jurisdiction of Teng County was assigned to Weishan County. In March 1956, Xuecheng County and Fushan County were evacuated, and part of their jurisdiction was incorporated into Teng County. In March 1960, 164 natural villages in Lincheng Commune of Teng County were placed under Zaozhuang City. In November 1983, Qicun District of Zaozhuang City was changed to Shanting District, and the eight communes of Dianzi, Fengmao, Xinzhuang, Xuzhuang, Xinzhao, Shanting, Sangcun and Chengtou in the eastern part of Teng County were placed under Zaozhuang City Shanting District.
