Overall, among the top 20 cities, the Pearl River Delta Since the region was the first to open up, most of them occupy the top ten positions. However, the development of Guangdong Province is very uneven. Northern Guangdong, southwestern Guangdong and eastern Guangdong are far from developed. Even if Shantou, Shaoguan and other places enter the ranking, their per capita Income has also lagged behind the Pearl River Delta cities several times.

Compared with the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta region has a tendency to catch up from behind. Especially in Zhejiang, both Northeastern Zhejiang, which is the traditional industrial and commercial center, and Wentai, which created the reform and opening up model, have achieved rapid development. Even the underdeveloped Quzhou and Lishui areas have squeezed into the forefront of China's richest cities. 40 ranks, in this sense, Zhejiang Province may be the province with the smallest regional development differences in China. Although Jiangsu is not as prestigious as Zhejiang, places such as Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou in southern Jiangsu have become the fastest growing places in China in recent years. The average annual growth rate of per capita income is generally more than 15%, leading to a sharp rise in its ranking. For example, Suzhou was still ranked around 30th in 2000. It has now climbed to 15th and is expected to enter the top ten in two or three years.

From the vertical cable rankings, we can find that in addition to coastal areas, many inland and border areas in the west, especially those cities with rich resources or along the border and coastal areas, rely on their resource advantages or because of their strategic geographical location. The central subsidy received has also become a moderate winner. The former include Karamay, Daqing, Jinchang, Baotou, etc., and the latter include Nanning, Urumqi, Lhasa, etc.

Only the vast central and western regions have neither the right time nor geography, so they have become a group of out-and-out losers. For example, Wuhan, known as the "Throughway of Nine Provinces", had a per capita income of only 9,564 yuan in 2004, although its per capita income soared by 12%; Chongqing, known as the "auxiliary capital" in history, only had 9,221 yuan; Zhengzhou also only had 9,364 yuan, and Taiyuan only 9,353 yuan. Others such as Hefei, Harbin, Changchun, Guiyang, etc. are all close to 9,000 yuan, with the exception of Changsha, which has a developed tertiary industry.

Look at the situation in Henan Province. Among the 18 prefecture-level cities in Henan, Zhengzhou ranked first with only 9,364 yuan. Luoyang and Anyang, which ranked second and third, only had 8,622 and 7,903 yuan respectively, ranking last. The three cities of Zhumadian, Xinyang and Zhoukou are only about 6,000 yuan. Nanchang, the capital of Jiangxi Province, is 8,690 yuan.
