Geological structure:

Xishuangbanna is divided by Lancang River Fault, which spans Tanggula-Changdu-Lanping-Simao and Gongshan-Tengchong fold systems. The former is Banpo anticlinorium and Dehua syncline, and the latter is located at the southeast end of Lincang-Menghai fold system.

Banpo anticlinorium is dominated by Mesozoic flysch formation-like, intermediate-acidic and intermediate-basic volcanic formations, accompanied by molasses formations, with red formations exposed sporadically and Cenozoic molasses formations unconformity. Dehua syncline and Mesozoic red strata are widely distributed, some of which are molasse strata, carbonate strata and coal-bearing clastic rocks.
