Is Hokkaido fun in winter?
Kushiro: Snow cranes dance.
Kushiro, located in the southeast of Hokkaido, is the largest city in Daodong and the largest fishing port in Hokkaido. Although delicious seafood can be eaten everywhere in Japan, if you want to taste the freshest and most affordable seafood, you must not miss the local fresh and direct seafood market.
Only the red-crowned crane in Hokkaido is a resident bird and does not migrate.
It is said that the red-crowned crane that flew from Siberia more than half a century ago is on the verge of extinction because of lack of food in winter. So local farmers spontaneously protected and fed the red-crowned crane in winter. Thanks to people's generous gifts, the red-crowned crane not only survived the extinction crisis, but also gradually evolved from a migratory bird to a resident bird, becoming a landscape along Kushiro Road all year round. This is a true story of crane gratitude.
1. Look at the Ice Waterfall Festival
If you ever dreamed of being taken to the movie Frozen, Xia Yun Stratum Music Festival may be the nearest place to you. This ice waterfall project is a winter wonderland composed of ice sculptures of various shapes and sizes, which lasts from late 10 to late March. The highlight of this festival is the spectacular ice castle, which is really a sight to see! After checking out, you can go to the nearby Sounkaku Hotel, thaw in the hotel's hot spring and experience the traditional Japanese rooms.
2. Lost in the magic of Lening terrace
Lening Terrace Hotel is adjacent to the Prince Hotel in New Furano. It is a series of charming boutique villas selling special artworks and handicrafts. All the buildings and walkways are located in the forest, made of natural wood and decorated with fairy-tale lights. This shop is open all year round, but when it is covered with a fluffy layer of snow, this place is even more magical. This is undoubtedly my favorite place. I found it by accident when I was in Hokkaido. Really can't recommend it!
Enjoy a hot spring
4. Taste some of the best products in Hokkaido.
Among the specialties of Hokkaido, this area is famous for its excellent dairy products. For example, Hokkaido cheese pie is very popular all over the world. Nostalgic cheesecake and dessert tart are delicious in every way. You can also find fresh cream iced milk anywhere-people will still eat it no matter what the temperature is outside! In addition to dairy products, the region is also famous for its melons, potatoes and the famous Hokkaido crab.
5. Go skiing/skateboarding in Furano
Hokkaido is famous all over the world for its powder skiing. You can see the ski resort here, and you will understand why. Although I didn't have a chance to ski by myself, we went to the rich grain leaf ropeway and saw the rich grain leaf ski resort. I can be sure that this is one of the most incredible ski resorts I have ever seen! The powder is incredible, and the scenery is simply the world. There are many other ski resorts around Hokkaido, including Niseko Mountain Resort Grand Hirafu Ski Resort and Liushoudu- you really like the choice here.
Boarding the aurora icebreaker
If you want to experience the feeling of crossing the North Pole, please board the Aurora icebreaker. The cruise ship set off from Netwalk Town at the southernmost tip of the northern hemisphere and witnessed the phenomenon of ice flow! If you are lucky, you can see seals, marine wildlife and birds on the ice. Remember, there is no guarantee that you will see anything on the boat-unfortunately, when we went out, we didn't see any ice because it obviously drifted too far!
7. Do you know Sak? Making method of
Sak? It is the most traditional alcoholic beverage in Japan, and it is made of fermented rice. Because sake is best brewed in cold climate, Hokkaido is the main place for this kind of production. So you will find that there are many distilleries in this area, and many local manufacturers pay attention to quality rather than mass production. Visiting local factories is a good way to learn the real art behind sake making, and understand that not all sake is equal.
8. Take part in snow activities
For those who don't like skiing or snowboarding, don't miss any winter fun You can also enjoy many ways in the snow, including snow tube, sledding and skating. In winter, you can find these activities in ski resorts, amusement parks (tickets) and festivals in Hokkaido.
9. Experience the natural beauty of Meiying
Biejing Town is located between Asahikawa and Furano. This place has vast fields, undulating mountains and, of course, picturesque scenery. Some of the most famous scenic spots in Meiying include the blue pond (pictured above), the patchwork roads and the Ken and Mary trees (an isolated tree in the valley, which was famous for its Nissan advertisements in the 1970s). Although these landscapes are the most popular in summer, they are still attractive enough in the case of snow cover (and can be enjoyed without a large number of tourists)!
10. Try some special restaurants in Hokkaido.
Sushi Yasu Sushi
You can't come to Japan without sushi. If you go online, Sushi Yasu is a traditional sushi restaurant, which opened in 1956 and is cooked with high-quality fresh ingredients from the Sea of Okhotsk. Sushi Some specialties of Yasu Restaurant include salmon, scallops, Hokkigai, button shrimp and crab Sotoko. If you don't like seafood, they also offer various vegetarian dishes, such as vegetable tempura and tofu hotpot.
Japanese/Italian Cuisine in Green Forest Restaurant
Japanese food and Italian food may both be important figures on the world food stage, but I have never seen these two kinds of food. Ristorante Foresta Verde is the perfect start of Japanese-style Italian cuisine (as far as I know, this is actually a very popular combination in Japan). Everything is made of fresh local raw materials. Although there are some peculiar flavor combinations, such as spaghetti and cabbage, the food here is actually very delicious. The restaurant has a charming atmosphere, enjoying the urban landscape and snowy mountain scenery of Asahikawa.
Jibil food from Kumagera
Gibbon cuisine is undoubtedly one of the most unique features in this area. This is a game restaurant that serves venison hot pot. Being a vegetarian is definitely not my dish (I just had a tofu hotpot), but I enjoy it with others!
Genghis Khan from Downton Farm Factory Restaurant.
Gengis Khan is a specialty of Hokkaido, which includes cooking your own meat and vegetables on a hot plate and then soaking them in a special sauce after cooking. We tried Gengis Khan in Tonden Farm Factory. They have a buffet. You can choose your own meat/vegetables and then go back to your desk to cook for yourself!
