Yu Jingchuan’s Yu Jingchuan and “Space Art”

In the vast and deep universe, a "space plane" flew from the space city to the earth. Yu Jingchuan named this incredible painting "Scheduled Flight". "In the future, people will be able to fly freely in the universe with the help of aircraft, just as it is as convenient to fly from one city to another today." 30-year-old Yu Jingchuan said this, his eyes sparkling.

"Space art" - this kind of creation that integrates science and art was first born in the pen of astronomers. In 1609, when Galileo observed space with a telescope for the first time in human history, he also left the first sketch of celestial bodies, "The Moon". Our country once had Han portrait tiles depicting the starry sky, such as Xi He holding the sun, Chang'e flying to the moon, etc. However, those paintings are connected with mythological stories, while modern space art has a scientific and rational tone.

In 1984, researcher Li Yuan, a famous popular science writer in my country, held the "Cosmic Painting Exhibition" at the Beijing Planetarium. Yu Jingchuan wandered there and never wanted to leave. From then on, he began to use gouache, watercolor, and paint as raw materials and airbrush techniques to create exquisite space art works. The beautiful nebulae, the brilliant Milky Way, the launch of the long-range rocket and the astronauts who landed on the moon have all become the objects of his paintings. The American "Newsweek" selected one of his oil paintings "Future Chinese Astronauts on the Moon".

In the simple office of Xuanwu District Youth Science and Technology Museum, Yu Jingchuan said with great enthusiasm that space art is an excellent popular science teaching material for teenagers. Mr. Li Yuan himself was fascinated by astronomy in 1944 when he happened to see the space art works published by the American painter Bon Astaire in the "Life" pictorial magazine on the streets of Chongqing.

Yu Jingchuan not only continues to weave his childhood dream of traveling in space, but also sows the seeds of this dream into the hearts of contemporary children...
