In the Qing Dynasty, there was a pimp camp in Beijing, which was then a famous red light district. The rickshaw pullers often work around, and the clients get on the bus and go to the skinning camp to do this kind of flesh business. Over time, rickshaw drivers wandering here were called pimps, and later they were extended to brokers who recruited prostitutes, so pimps became a special term.

Now, pimping continues to extend to informal channels and matchmaking in abnormal relationships to seek some illegal benefits. People who engage in this kind of behavior are called pimps.
