Where is a square or gymnasium in Wuhan that can accommodate about 80,000 people?

Recently, the gymnastics preliminaries of the 6th National Urban Games were held in Wuhan Sports Center Gymnasium, which was the first official sports competition hosted by the largest gymnasium in Central China after it was officially put into use. Coaches and athletes from gymnastics teams from 23 provinces and cities participated in the five-day preliminary contest.

As one of the second-phase projects of Wushu Center, the gymnasium of Wushu Center was officially started on February 29th, 2004. After more than two years of rigorous and efficient construction, it was officially completed on April 8, 2007.

The total investment of the gymnasium is about 360 million yuan, with a total area of more than 28,000 square meters and a total construction area of more than 55,000 square meters. Li Wenjun, a senior engineer at the site, said that the stadium can accommodate more than13,000 people, including over 8,000 fixed seats and over 4,000 movable seats. "This gymnasium is the largest in Central China in terms of the number of spectators and the scale of infield construction." The gymnasium will also undertake the gymnastics competition during the June+10/October 6, 5438 this year.

It is understood that the Gymnasium of Wushu Center has the ability to hold many indoor competitions such as gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, martial arts, wrestling, weightlifting, handball and fencing, which can meet the requirements of holding international and domestic high-level individual sports competitions. Yi Guoqing, general manager of Wuhan Sports Center Development Co., Ltd. said: "The holding of the gymnastics preliminaries of the Six-City Games is a comprehensive test of our newly-built gymnasium construction achievements, our equipment operation management and event service guarantee, and it is also a training team and accumulated experience for the Six-City Games held in June+10, 5438."

It is understood that the "one hall and two halls" (60,000-person stadium, 1.3-person stadium and 3,000-person swimming pool) and supporting facilities built by Wushu Sports Center will eventually form a modern large-scale sports theme park integrating sports competition, fitness and entertainment, cultural performances, tourism and leisure, business exhibitions and other functions.
