The origin of form and meaning
Xingyi has been inhabited by human beings since ancient times, which can be proved by the archaeological excavations of He Miaomiao Cave and Zhangkou Cave in Fengdu, a paleolithic cultural site. Although it was developed earlier and has a long history, due to its remoteness, sparse population, blocked traffic and being far away from the culturally developed areas in the Central Plains, the records of relevant written materials are very scarce. It was not until the early Ming Dynasty that Zhu Yuanzhang carried out the policy of "transferring from the north to the south" that these places officially entered the central territory and began to be recorded in writing.
Xingyi county was called Huangcaoba before it was built. Xu Xiake, a great traveler in the late Ming Dynasty, came to Huangcaoba to inspect the source of Panjiang River in the late August of the tenth year of Chongzhen (1638). He saw that this place is richer than other surrounding places, with a large population, concentrated living, convenient roads and far away from the state capital (Panxian County), so he thought that Huangcaoba "can build a county".
In Xingyi in the Ming Dynasty, there were two companies and three battalions (Tusi) in Ping Huang, Buxiong and Pengzha, all under the jurisdiction of Pu 'an Prefecture. Why not set up a county? Xu Xiake hit the nail on the head and pointed out: "The toast is afraid to take its power, and the state officials are afraid to take advantage of it." In the early Qing dynasty, it followed the rule of the Ming dynasty, and then implemented the policy of "changing soil into water". In the fifth year of Yongzheng (1727), the Puan Court was set up in Huangcaoba, with Zuo Ying guerrillas first and scouts later. State judges and inspectors have little power, and they belong to seven officials and nine officials, only taking care of a little paperwork and local security.
70 years later, at the beginning of the second year of Jiaqing (1797), the Buyi peasant uprising led by Wei broke out in Nanlong (now Anlong). The rebels were huge and occupied many places in a short time, but they also failed soon. In less than a year, it was brutally suppressed by the Qing army.
As early as the Kangxi period, after the Qing army recovered Taiwan Province Province from the descendants of Zheng Chenggong, Emperor Kangxi renamed Zhuluo County in Taiwan Province Province as Chiayi County. After the uprising of Buyi farmers in Nanlongfu was suppressed by the town, Emperor Jiaqing imitated his great-grandfather Kangxi and renamed Xingyi House in Nanlongfu as "to show good manners". Jiaqing also wrote a five-character poem for this purpose. There are two lines in the poem: "More names are given to the government, and Xingyi has a new amount."
This is the origin of the name Xingyi.
As Huangcaoba, Buxiong, Pengzha and other places are under the jurisdiction of Pu 'an area, there are more than 200 miles from Huangcaoba to Panxian, where the state capital is located, and people's communication is extremely inconvenient. At that time, although the economy was underdeveloped and there were not many business contacts, it belonged to local management, and local officials, chiefs, village heads and so on had to pay money and grain taxes to the state every year; Primary school students should take the scholar exam in this state; Some lawsuits must be decided in the state. Also, locals have to go to the state to deal with various errands, and the time is long or short, and the rotation is endless.
It has been the wish of local gentry and people for many years to set up a county in Huangcaoba. In August of the following year, when Le Bao, governor of Yunnan and Guizhou, directed the suppression of the Buyi peasant uprising in Nanlong Town, Jiaqing, a group of local gentry headed by China in Huangcaoba rushed to Nanlong to meet Le Bao and strongly demanded the establishment of a county in Huangcaoba.
After listening to the statements of Hua and others, Lebao opened the map and saw that the area from Huangcaoba to Pengza was vast, with deep mountains and deep valleys. Without county governance, the judgment and inspection of small States cannot be managed. Starting from the interests of the imperial court, Huangcaoba should set up a county. So he replied to the court. In September this year, Lebao was transferred back to Beijing. In the third year of Jiaqing, the new governor of Yunnan and Guizhou, E Hui, wrote to the court: "If Huangcaoba is set up, it must conform to public opinion and set up county governance." The purpose of setting up a county is to "govern the land and control the border." As for the name of the county, E Hui suggested to the court: "This place belongs to Xingyi Prefecture, improvising Yixian."
This is the origin of the names of Huangcaoba County and Xingyi County.
In the second year of the Republic of China (19 13), Nanlong County was established in the abandoned Xingyi Prefecture; 1922, Nanlong County was changed to Anlong County, and the word "Xingyi" specifically refers to Xingyi County.
