Studio Ghibli's producer, Toshi Utsumi Suzuki, believes that women who work in hotels, even if they are shy, will do so in order to get a financial return; And constantly improve the communication ability when receiving male customers, men who go to hotels will also change their communication methods under the interaction with hotel girls.

This idea inspired Miyazaki Hayao, who wanted to sell a story about a spoiled girl who suddenly broke into an unknown world and had to associate with all kinds of people in order to survive, so as to improve her ability of dealing with others.
