How to get rid of the smoke smell in a room Three ways to get rid of the smoke smell in a room.
Method 1: Try a simple method.
1, clean the ashtray and cigarettes in the room. Besides smokers, ashtrays and cigarettes are also the main sources of smoke smell. If you want to get rid of the smell of smoke, you must start from the source.
2. Open the window. Although opening a window can't make strong or old smoke disappear completely, those slight smells will slowly dissipate with the flow of air. If possible, put a fan next to the window and blow it indoors. This method can blow the breeze into the room.
3. Use air freshener. Many air fresheners can make indoor air smell good. As long as you choose the right one, the effect of air freshener on odor is still obvious. Not all air fresheners can eliminate odor. Pay attention to whether there is "deodorant" on the package when buying. This air freshener can not only eliminate the smell of smoke, but also make the room smell pleasant.
4, order incense. Incense will give off a pungent aroma similar to musk, covering up the smell of cigarettes. You can buy incense in strips, powders and granules. When lighting incense, you must choose a non-flammable bracket. As long as the incense is still burning, you should always look at it. Finally, douse the incense with water.
5. Put a bowl of white vinegar in the room. Although the smell of white vinegar is unpleasant, it can absorb all kinds of odors, including the smell of smoke. You can smell that the room is different at night. After a few hours, pour out the white vinegar. The taste of vinegar is different from that of cigarette, so it won't linger. You can also use baking soda, cat litter or activated carbon to remove odors. All the above materials can absorb odor, but they have to be replaced every few days.
6. Move the furniture outdoors for ventilation. If there is still no smoke in the room after ventilation, it means that the smoke has penetrated into the furniture. Move the furniture outside to dry for a day or two. Ultraviolet rays in the sun will kill bacteria that produce odor and neutralize the smell of smoke.
7. Sprinkle baking soda on carpets and furniture mats. After 72 hours, vacuum the baking soda. The effect of baking soda on absorbing odor is very obvious. You can also spray white vinegar on the furniture and dry it with a paper towel.
This method may have no effect on strong smoke smell.
Method 2: Clean the room and everything thoroughly.
1. Wipe all walls and ceilings with cleaning products containing ammonia. Everything in the room will be polluted by cigarette smoke. Maybe you can't see it, but smoke still exists. Even if the smoker has left, you can still smell the smoke, which usually comes from this "film". In severe cases, walls and ceilings may need to be repainted. The new paint can cover the paint that has absorbed the smell of smoke. Brush the primer first and then refresh the top coat. So the smell of smoke won't come out.
If you can't repaint the wall, brush a layer of matt polyurethane primer. This can eliminate the smell of smoke without changing the color of the wall.
If there is wallpaper on the wall, wipe the wall with white vinegar first. If there is still smoke, you must tear off the old wallpaper and put up a new one.
2. Wipe all hard surfaces. This includes window sills, mantels, furniture and floors. In addition, cabinets, wardrobes, drawers, dressing tables and other furniture should also be wiped inside and outside. It can be wiped with ammonia-containing detergent or white vinegar. Don't worry about the taste of vinegar; The smell of vinegar will gradually fade and eventually disappear.
3. Clean the carpet with a steam carpet cleaner. You can buy or rent a special cleaning machine to clean the carpet, and then go home and operate it yourself. You can also hire a special carpet cleaner to clean the carpets at home. If the situation is really serious, you may need to replace the carpet. The smell on the carpet is difficult to get rid of. If you really need to replace the carpet, don't forget to give the floor under the carpet a good brush to completely remove the smell of smoke.
In order to remove the stubborn smell, you can try adding deodorant to the steam carpet cleaner.
4. Washing clothes, pillows, blankets and furniture cushions. When washing those items that can be machine washed, add 1 cup of white vinegar to the washing machine. White vinegar can remove odor. And those items that can't be washed by machine have to be sent to dry cleaning. Remember: you may need to wash it several times to make the smoke completely disappear. Sometimes, you may need to buy new pillows and blankets. Furniture cushions may also need new ones.
If even the washing machine can't get rid of the smoke smell of clothes, you'd better send them to dry cleaning.
5. Clean curtains and blinds. Put down all the curtains. Some curtains can be washed at home, while others have to be sent to a special dry cleaner. The blinds can be taken to the bathroom and scrubbed with white vinegar.
6. Don't forget to clean the windows and mirrors. Cigarette smoke will leave a film on the surface of any object, including windows and mirrors. You don't always see this layer of residue, but it does exist. When the weather is hot, the film formed by smoke will be heated and begin to smell of smoke. At this time, pour white vinegar into the watering can, prepare kitchen paper towels, and carefully wipe the windows and glass. You can also use ordinary household glass cleaner to clean windows and glass. You'd better clean the light bulb in the room, too, because the light bulb will heat up when used. You can also directly replace the new light bulb.
Method 3: Filter air.
1. Use the air purifier. The air purifier can absorb bacteria and chemicals that produce odor in the air, making the indoor air fresh and pleasant. The air purifier can also remove allergens in the air, so it is especially suitable for people with allergies or asthma.
2. Replace the filter screen of the heater and air conditioner. The filter can intercept the smell. If the odor in the room is very strong, no matter how clean it is, the odor still lingers, then it is probably because there are too many odors accumulated on the filter screen.
3. Try the ozone machine. Ozone produced by ozone machine can oxidize organic molecules, which are the main cause of odor. Many people who have tried it say that ozone can really remove the smell of cigarettes. First, you need to put the machine in the room and set the time. Make sure all the windows in the room are closed, then leave the room and close the door. Ozone will slowly fill the whole room. Wait at least one hour before entering the room after the machine stops automatically. Ozone machines may irritate people's throats. Asthma patients can't use ozone machine, otherwise it will aggravate their condition.
If possible, turn on the air supply mode of air conditioner. Doing so can not only circulate the air, but also clean the air conditioner.
The stronger the smoke, the longer the working time of the ozone machine needs to be set. If a smoker stays in the room for several days, turn on the ozone machine for several hours. If smokers have lived in the room for several years, the ozone machine needs to be turned on for several days.
The ozone machine can only remove part of the smoke smell. If the smell of smoke has penetrated into walls, floors, curtains and furniture, it cannot be completely removed by ozone machine alone.
Tips Choose an air freshener, which can not only add fragrance to the air, but also remove odor.
Light an aromatherapy candle in the room. Some people find that lighting an aromatherapy candle can not only give off a good smell, but also absorb the peculiar smell in the air.
Don't smoke indoors. If it is inconvenient for you to smoke outdoors because of the cold weather or rain, please open the window and stand by and smoke.
Air the room after smoking. Open a window and put a fan in front of it to let fresh air into the room.
Don't put ashtrays or cigarettes indoors. Even if you smoke outdoors, you'd better not put anything related to cigarettes in your room. This also includes the coat worn when smoking.
Before using any cleaning agent, you should find an inconspicuous place to test it, so as to prevent the cleaning agent from staining or damaging the surface of the object.
Throw cigarette butts outdoors to avoid lingering indoor smoke.
Warning When using household cleaning products indoors, be sure to open the windows. When the detergent contains ammonia, more attention should be paid to window ventilation.
Asthma patients can't use ozone machine.
Never use indoor spray around pets, especially for bird owners.
