Ho Chi Minh City is more prosperous than Hanoi. Why does the Vietnamese government insist on making Hanoi the capital?

First, let's look at the geographical locations of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh. Hanoi, the capital, can be said to be the core city of northern Vietnam, while Ho Chi Minh City is the core city of southern Vietnam. Geographically, there is not much comparability between the two, which is equally important to Vietnam. Two cities, one south and one north, have propped up the "one pole" of Vietnam.

We look at Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh from the historical perspective. Hanoi was the ruling center of China in Jiaozhou, now Vietnam, during the ancient Han and Tang Dynasties. Just because Vietnam was too far away from the ruling center of the Central Plains Dynasty, local local tyrants gradually broke away from the control of the Central Plains Dynasty when the Central Plains Dynasty was in chaos and often tried to move toward independence. However, at that time, the Central Plains Dynasty would send troops to restore diplomatic relations. For example, at the end of the Tang Dynasty, Tang Gaozong sent Gao Pian to defeat the invading Nanzhao State, recover Vietnam, which was then known as the Annan region, and re-establish the administrative organ-the still water division in today's Hanoi, making today's Hanoi the most prosperous place in Annan. Annan, a local tyrant in the Five Dynasties and Ten Countries, once again tried to break away from the rule of the Central Plains and finally succeeded. However, these local tyrants will still set their capital in Hanoi, which was located in the center of Annan.

Moreover, since the independence of the Song Dynasty, Vietnam began to expand its territory to the south with Hanoi in the north as the center. The independence and reunification of modern Vietnam is also centered on Hanoi and unified Vietnam all the way south. It is precisely because of this modern Vietnam that Hanoi is positioned as the capital.

Hanoi has been regarded as the fundamental territory of Vietnam for generations, and Hanoi is also the most developed place in ancient Vietnam. Judging from the history of more than 2,000 years in Vietnam, taking Hanoi as the ruling center is a long-standing thing in Vietnam, and it is also in the best interests of the rulers.

Now, Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam, does not have such a long and glorious history. The area where Ho Chi Minh City was located in the early days was not Vietnam, but Cambodia was Khmer at first. Around the Ming and Qing Dynasties in China, Vietnamese Li Chao Ruan came here and occupied it. They drove away the aborigines and attracted many Ming Dynasty adherents who died in the Ming and Qing Dynasties to reclaim the land, so they set up a county here (called Jiading House) and directly brought Ho Chi Minh City, then called Chaigan, under the jurisdiction of Nguyen, the feudal dynasty of Vietnam. Because then Chai Zhijia Dingfu (later nicknamed Saigon by China people) was now Ho Chi Minh City.

As for the status of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's positioning is economic status. It is the largest city and the most important economic zone in Vietnam at present, which can create a large proportion of output value for Vietnam and promote its modernization.
