It has been included in the world historical and cultural heritage reserve list, the first batch of famous historical and cultural towns in China, and the national AAAA-level scenic spot.

Location

Xitang is one of the six ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River, located in Jiashan County, Zhejiang Province. Jiashan is located in the southwest of Shanghai, bordering Shanghai at zero distance, 8km away from the center of Shanghai, 6km away from Dahongqiao Business District, 11km away from Hangzhou in the west, 35km away from Zhapu Port in the south and 85km away from Suzhou in the north, which is in the center of the Yangtze River Delta. The transportation is extremely convenient. The Shanghai-Hangzhou Railway, Shanghai-Hangzhou Expressway, Shanghai-Hangzhou Expressway, Shenjiahu Expressway, Hangzhou Bay Cross-sea Bridge North Connecting Line, Tingfeng Expressway Connecting Line, and National Highway 32 all cross the border, and can be reached by car, high-speed rail and train. It takes only about 2 minutes to get from Jiashan to Shanghai Hongqiao Hub Station by taking the Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed rail which was opened to traffic on October 26th, 21. There are three airports around Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, Shanghai Pudong Airport and Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport. Xitang is 1 kilometers north of Jiashan city, and it takes 2-3 minutes to get there by bus express.

Origin of the name of the town

Version 1: It is said that in the Spring and Autumn Period, Wu Zixu of the State of Wu promoted water conservancy, transported salt, dug Wuzitang, and led the water north of Xushan (now 12 miles southwest of Jiashan County) to reach the territory directly, so Xitang was also called Xutang. Because Xitang is flat, it is a Ma Pingchuan, also known as Pingchuan and Xietang.

Version 2: There is a lake swing with an area of 3,4 mu in the northeast of xitang town, which is one of the largest lakes in Jiashan County. Legend has it that during the period of Xiangfu in Dazhong, North Song Zhenzong, a large family named Tang moved to Dangbian to live. They saw this lake swing with beautiful scenery, rich in kingfishers and Hong Ling, which were auspicious things, and just during the period of Xiangfu, they called this lake swing with the word "Xiangfu". This surnamed tang family, with two brothers, lived happily in Xiangfu, and later separated. Brother lives in the east of Dangdang, known as Dongtang, and brother lives in the west of Dangdang, known as Xitang. Later, my brother's room gradually declined, and my younger brother's room was very prosperous, just like a tree, which gave birth to many trees and branches. Therefore, people added a soil to the place where they lived, called Xitang.

the origin of verandah shed

scattered verandah streets with several households in one can be seen everywhere in Jiangnan water town. However, the verandah street is more than 1,3 meters long, only Xitang. The corridor street in Xitang has shops or houses on one side and rivers on the other. There are small rivers close to the corridor street, which is winding and has a very emotional atmosphere. When you step into the corridor street, you are greeted by the house boat on both sides of the strait and the river port that is crowding round. If it rains, the rain drops on the eaves to form a long rain curtain, even people who can't write poetry will suddenly be full of poetry. There is no official record about the origin of the corridor street, only two versions of "building for lang" and "building for charity" circulated by the people.

Version 1: Hu, a young widow, supports a family and a shop alone in Xitang. By the river bank in front of Hujiapu, there is a Wang Er with a tofu stall. Wang Er sympathizes with Hu and often helps to do some manual work. After a long time, Hu felt inseparable from Wang Er, but it was difficult to express this feeling. He took pains to repair the shop and asked someone to build a shed along the river to cover the street in front of the shop. In this way, Wang er can be protected from wind and rain, and they can also be under the same roof. I don't want Hu's shop to prosper because of this shack. Merchants in the town have followed suit, and over the past few years, shacks have become a line. Later generations took the meaning of "building for lang" and called the hut corridor street.

version 2: there is an owner of a cigarette paper shop in Xitang. When the shop closed one day, he saw a beggar sheltering from the rain under the eaves in front of the shop and asked him to come in. The beggar refused, so the boss took a roll of bamboo curtain and attached it to the eaves, and temporarily set up a shed for the beggar to shelter from the rain. The next day, the beggar left a line on the door panel of the shop: "The porch shed shelter from the wind and rain all night, and the good people are lucky." Since then, the cigarette and paper shop has really prospered. In order to thank the beggar for his kindness, the shopkeeper simply built a corridor street with bricks, tiles and wooden frames under the eaves in front of the shop, and crossed the small street to the river port.

the legend of Wolong bridge

Wolong bridge used to be a wooden bridge, which was in disrepair and dilapidated. One day, a bamboo craftsman named Zhu lived by the bridge and saw a pregnant woman fall into the water and die. She wanted to rebuild it, but she had no money. He cut his hair and became a monk with a wide name. He ran for alms for ten years, accumulated 3,2 pieces of silver, and started construction. By the time the silver was used up, there was still a lack of stone, but the monk died of a bitter illness at the age of ten. The project will stop because of the lack of bridge deck. At this time, two immortals came to Xitang, and heard that Xitang dried bean curd was very famous and praised. While intoxicated, a piece of dried bean curd fell and landed on the unfinished Wolong Bridge, forming a bridge deck. So the deck of Wolong Bridge is a big one. The whole bridge is carved with a dragon, the head is east and the tail is west, which is still clearly visible today.

Legend of sending a son to Laifeng Bridge

According to Records of xitang town, Laifeng Bridge was built in the 1th year of Chongzhen in Ming Dynasty (AD 1637) and rebuilt twice in Qing Dynasty. Legend has it that when the bridge was built, a bird flew in, and the city people thought it was auspicious, so they named it "Songzi Laifeng Bridge". In 1988, it was rebuilt into a single-hole reinforced concrete arch bridge. In 1998, it was rebuilt in the form of a "corridor" in classical gardens, with partition walls and flower windows and passages on both sides. It is said that every newlywed couple crossing this bridge, male left and female right, can be blessed. In addition, this bridge is called "dripping rain bridge" and "lovers bridge" harmoniously. The former can remind people of rainy days. Wouldn't it be better to sit here and have a drink? Slope. Of course, men go up the stairs step by step, while women take a small step of three inches of golden lotus, and keep the house steady. The old people say, "When the newlyweds take a walk, the south will send their children, and the north will come to phoenix." If they have not yet had children after marriage, they might as well take a walk.

Legend of the Seven Old Masters Temple (the Temple of Protecting the Country with Food King)

During the Chongzhen period of Ming Dynasty, there was a famine in Jiashan, and there were many hungry people. At that time, the seven old masters supervised the delivery of imperial grain, but they could not bear to see the hunger everywhere, and even gave it to the people. He knew that it was a capital crime to distribute imperial grain to the people without permission, so he drowned himself in Yantawan River, and the people in the vicinity were saved. They were
