Ningde, alias Mindong and Jiaocheng, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province. It is located in the northeast of Fujian Province, bordering the East China Sea in the east, Fuzhou in the south, Nanping in the west and Wenzhou in Zhejiang in the north. By the end of 2020, Ningde has a land area of 13452 square kilometers, a sea area of 44600 square kilometers and a coastline of 1046 kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 9 counties (cities, districts), 43 townships, 69 towns, 14 sub-district offices, 20 1 neighborhood committees and 2 135 village committees.

The basic outline of Ningde landform was formed at the end of Yanshan movement, which belongs to Zhongshan landform area of volcanic rock system in central Fujian and granite hilly plain landform area along the coast of eastern Fujian. Its terrain is high in the west and low in the north, high in the east and low in the south, with a bulge in the middle, which is roughly a "door"-shaped ladder. There are two peaks in the northwest of the territory, namely, Donggong Mountain and Jiufeng Mountain. There are 696 peaks above 1000 meters above sea level, and the highest peak is 1649 meters above sea level. There are two mountains, Taimu Mountain and Tianhu Mountain, in the north-central and south-central, with 89 peaks 1000 meters above sea level and the highest peak 1479 meters above sea level. East of the Pacific Ocean, there are many islands in the sea area, including bays, harbors 178 and 305 islands, which constitute a steep terrain, including intermountain basins and coastal accumulation plains.
