The Historical Evolution of Xiashan Village

In the late Qing Dynasty, Xiashan was just a small fishing station. There is only a small harbor by the sea for civilian ships to dock. Fishermen catch up with the tide and sell aquatic products and fish here, while neighboring villagers and vendors collect firewood, rice and other daily necessities to trade with fishermen. The tide rose into a dam and closed. There are only a few small houses lined up on the beach to shelter from the wind and rain. Fishermen built a brick-and-wood "Haisheng Palace" temple (next to Haifu Hotel) by the sea, meaning that fishermen are children of the sea and pray for peace. This is also one of the earliest buildings in Xiashan. There was no exact place name in the early Xiashan Mountain, and there were scattered villages around it, such as Xiewu, Xiashan, Paotaizi, Wu Zhi, Haitou Port and Hongwu, which were once collectively called Haitou Hong and were under the jurisdiction of the 22nd government of Suixi County, the state capital of Leizhou.

1947 the party organization set up a guerrilla in Xiashan village, southeast area of Silla Palace, 1948 the party organization set up an underground liaison station in Silla Palace, which made an important contribution to the liberation of Zhanjiang and wrote a glorious page in the history of revolutionary struggle in Zhanjiang.

On the morning of February 27th, 2008, Xiashan Village under the jurisdiction of Xiashan Workers and Peasants Sub-district Office of Zhanjiang City was filled with gongs and drums. A grand ceremony is being held here to celebrate the approval of Silla Palace as the sixth batch of cultural relics protection units in Zhanjiang City. The person in charge of the Workers and Peasants Street Office told the author that during the period of socialist construction, the people of Xiashan Village carried forward the fine revolutionary tradition and closely cooperated with Zhanjiang's urban construction planning, making great contributions to Zhanjiang's economic development. Xinluo Palace was approved as the sixth batch of cultural relics protection units in Zhanjiang City, which is not only a major event for Xiashan Village to build a characteristic cultural village, but also a major event for the development of street culture.
