Brief Introduction of Wuyuanwan Wetland Park in Xiamen

Xiamen Wuyuanwan Wetland Park is one of the driving projects in Wuyuanwan District of Xiamen, covering an area of 85 hectares, equivalent to half of Gulangyu Island. It is the largest park in Xiamen and the largest wetland ecological park, and is known as the green lung of Xiamen.

The conceptual design of Wuyuanwan Wetland Park was put forward by Atkins Consulting, the largest design company in Europe, and its seven-star sailing hotel in Dubai has become an international landmark.

The planned total area of wetland park is over 500,000 square meters. Every March, a large number of egrets will nest and breed here. It is also an important station for migratory birds to migrate north and south.

The design concept of wetland park is: not destroying the original ecological foundation, making full use of the existing ecological environment, giving priority to protection and restoration, supplemented by reconstruction, and creating a green and original ecological wetland park. On the current plot of Wuyuanwan Wetland Park, the existing aquatic and hygrophytic plant belts, aquatic plant communities, reed and wetland plant communities will be protected, and plants such as acacia, hibiscus, Leucaena, water lilies and mangroves will be planted. At present, 25 species of wetland waterbirds in 9 families, such as black swan and wild duck, and 29 species of forest and farmland birds in 17 families will continue to live and sing here.

According to the functional planning, the park will include wetland ecological nature reserve, mangrove plant area, bird-watching island and leisure sports area around the lake.

In this original ecological wetland, there are two waterside pavilions, namely, wetland ecological nature reserve, characteristic ecological transition zone around the lake, water sports area, wetland maze trestle, wetland plant display and mangrove plant area. All natural landscapes follow the trend according to the existing landscapes and landforms, without any traces of artificial carving.
