The original name of the school is Xiangtan Vocational and Technical College, which was merged from Xiangtan Staff University, Xiangtan Mechanical and Electrical Industry Technical Secondary School and Xiangtan Health School in 20001and 2004. On June 20 15, the school was renamed Xiangtan Medical and Health Vocational and Technical College.

The school is a high-level vocational college and a high-level professional group (clinical medicine professional group, nursing professional group, rehabilitation treatment technology professional group) in Hunan Province.
