Whether it is AT gearbox, CVT gearbox or even dual clutch gearbox on the market, it is called automatic gearbox. AT automatic transmission is the most widely used in the market, such as Cadillac and Lexus, which all use 10AT, and the gears are also increasing. However, Volkswagen has never heard of the 10 speed dual clutch gearbox, but it has been hacking into this 7-speed dual clutch. What is the reason?

Volkswagen's car sales have been relatively large, so the production capacity is relatively high. Aisin used to supply it with AT gearboxes. Volkswagen didn't have its own gearbox manufacturer, but Aisin didn't only supply gearboxes to the public, resulting in the production capacity not keeping up with the public's demand. Just like fish sellers in the market, fish pond owners have been keeping so many fish, and they are not just selling them to a hotel. It's gone when it's sold out. The hotel had to go to another one, which was similar.

Without the gearbox, the most direct result is the decline in the production capacity of the car, and the public can't stand the decline in production capacity, can it? So I have to build my own dual clutch gearbox. There is also a reason why Volkswagen chose to build a dual clutch instead of an AT gearbox. Foreign gearbox giants have basically registered many patents on various electronic control and detection methods of this AT gearbox. Famous gearbox giants such as Aisin, ZF, Jacket, Bosch, etc. It has basically monopolized the patented technology of AT gearbox, and Volkswagen wants to pay high protection fees.

However, the dual clutch is still under development. It does not need to pay patent fees, and the cost is low. It can also be used in your own car on a large scale. Of course you choose to engage in double clutch.

Compared with the 10AT gearbox, the dual clutch gearbox is essentially different. To put it bluntly, it is such a thing that two sets of clutches are combined. Although it is also called automatic transmission, it is essentially manual transmission. Therefore, every time you add a gear, you need to add a set of control units, which will easily lead to a significant increase in weight and volume. You may not be able to fit it into the engine compartment in the end. The increased weight will also have a direct impact on fuel consumption, and it is not made by Volkswagen.

Compared with 10AT, the 7-speed dual clutch is not smooth enough, but because of its unique principle and relatively low fuel consumption, Volkswagen dual clutch has also made progress in recent years. From the dry dual clutch that was complained a lot at first to the wet dual clutch now, the technology is becoming more and more mature.
