What is the frequent flyer program?

Frequent flyer program refers to the promotion method that airlines introduce to frequent flyers on their flights, which focuses on mileage accumulation rewards. It is a market means to attract business travelers and improve the competitiveness of airlines.

1994, China International Airlines launched the frequent flyer program and the corresponding companion card for the first time in China. China Eastern Airlines officially launched the frequent flyer program in July, 1998. Subsequently, Xiamen Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Beihang Airlines also launched their own frequent flyer programs.

Airlines have set up clubs to implement frequent flyer programs, such as "Air China Club" and "China Eastern Airlines Jin Yan Club". Passengers who meet the requirements of frequent flyer programs of airlines can apply to join the corresponding airline clubs and get membership cards. Members can earn mileage by flying with this airline, or by spending money at partners (such as hotels) of this airline. When the mileage reaches a certain standard, members can exchange the mileage for free air tickets, free upgrades or other designated rewards.
