South South Male Atoll (South Male Atoll)

Crossing Vaadhoo Kandu, the choppy strait between North and South Male Atolls, you’ll immediately notice the difference between you and our busy northern neighbor. In comparison, South Male Atoll in the Maldives has a very different atmosphere. Part of the reason is that it is sparsely populated, with only three inhabited islands on the eastern edge of the atoll, each of which has a small population. Plus, the uninhabited islands are far apart from each other, so you’ll really feel like you’re far away from the hustle and bustle of Male and its surrounding islands.

Ari Atoll

The Ari Atoll in the Maldives is located west of the capital, a broad oval shape Qiao Lake is dotted with reefs, full of luxurious temptation. Like Male Atoll, it is better known by its traditional name, Alif, than its official name, Alif. Although the atoll is a natural unit, it is divided into two administrative regions - North Ari Atoll and South Ari Atoll due to its vast area. North Ari Atoll includes the small Rasdhoo Atoll and Thoddoo. Judging from the natural geographical location, these two places do not belong to Ari Atoll, but are on the northeastern edge of the atoll. The rich marine life around the atoll makes the water flowing out of the strait rich in nutrients, attracting a large number of fish from the open sea and diving enthusiasts from around the world - South Ari Atoll is still one of the best places in the world to watch whale sharks. The world's largest fish swims around the edges of the reef year-round. Ari Atoll is home to the most famous and exclusive resorts in the Maldives, and the superior diving environment means there are also many budget diving resorts and beach resorts.

Rasdhoo Atoll

Strictly speaking, the small atoll of Rasdhoo is located in the northeast corner of Ari Atoll. The atoll's main island, also called Rasdhoo (850 inhabitants), is the administrative capital of North Ari Atoll, although not geographically part of the atoll itself. Rasdhoo is a charming town with a junior high school, a medical center, several mosques and some souvenir shops. The tourists here are day trippers from nearby resorts. People have been living here hundreds of years ago, leaving traces of the Buddhist society before Islam spread to humans. The medical center at Kuramathi Resort on Rasdhoo Atoll has decompression rooms and specialists in treating stress disorders.
