How to clear customs for exporting hotel supplies to Nigeria with SONCAP certification?

The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) is Nigeria’s government agency responsible for formulating and enforcing quality standards for imported goods and domestically manufactured products. In order to ensure that controlled products comply with the country's technical standards or other international standards that have been approved for implementation, and to protect Nigerian consumers from unsafe products or products that do not meet standards, the Nigeria National Bureau of Standards has decided to implement controls on controlled products exported to the country. Mandatory Conformity Assessment Procedure Before Shipment (hereinafter referred to as SONCAP).

The SONCAP certification for hotel supplies export to Nigeria mainly involves 2 steps: SONCAP=PC COC

1. The exporter or manufacturer applies for a PC certificate; PC is the abbreviation of Product Certificate.

2. The exporter applies for a COC certificate; COC is the abbreviation of Certificate of Conformity.

The SONCAP certificate is a legally required document for controlled products to go through customs clearance procedures in Nigeria. The lack of a SONCAP certificate will cause controlled products to be delayed in customs clearance or refused to enter the Nigerian domestic market. It is particularly important to note that SONCAP applies to controlled products, and other import procedures prescribed by the Nigerian government are still valid.
