Tonghe Township is located 32 kilometers northwest of Tanghe County, at the junction of tanghe county, Sheqi County and Wancheng County, with a total area of 68.5 square kilometers. Tonghe is an ancient historical and cultural town. Tonghe Street was a famous and prosperous place in the east of Nanyang for a long time in ancient times. The market has always been famous for its trade, and grain shops, cattle shops and cotton shops are all famous in Wandong. Merchant ships went down to the Tang River, then to the Han River and the Yangtze River, and finally to Shanghai. Records show the ancient scenery of Tonghe Street. According to the annotation of the Records of Tang County in the fifty-second year of Qing Qianlong (A.D. 1787), there is an article "Tonghe Temple Tax Discussion" in the Geographical Records. In the thirty-eighth year of Wanli in Ming Dynasty (A.D. 16 10), Wang, the magistrate of Tang County, reported to Xiangyang House that many businessmen from Shanxi and Nanyang were doing business in Tonghe Street. Due to the heavy taxes in Tang County and the light taxes in Nanyang, the merchants did not pay the taxes in Tang County, which led to the inability of Tonghe Store to complete the annual taxes of 180 silver. Later, the government also gave a reply: "If you set up an enterprise in the border area (meaning to set up a business trade according to your geographical location), you will pay taxes in the border area, and the tax depends on the place." . Tonghe Store is under the jurisdiction of the Tang Dynasty. Who will take the tax instead of the people who store goods in Tonghe Store (which sells goods between us)? Counties and counties ordered to levy Tang taxes, so there was no need to use the word "government" to make the treacherous land empty. At that time, Tangxian County (in Ming and Qing Dynasties, Tangxian County had a large area with * * * 20 stores and 12 stores, except for the present area, which was under the jurisdiction of Haozhai and Miaodian in the north of Sheqi) had an annual silver tax of 1500 taels, while Tonghe stores accounted for nearly one eighth, showing the prosperity of business. During the Southern Qi Dynasty (AD 479-502), Henan County was established.

By the Song Dynasty, it was already a prosperous local river wharf, known as "Tonghedian", with a developed commercial economy. In the second year of Song Shaosheng (1095), when Tang Zhou (now tanghe county) built the Sizhou Tower, Tonghe Temple donated money to build the seventh floor of the tower.

Ming and Qing dynasties were one of the 20 guarantees in Tangxian County. The town has built a stockade wall with four gates, a circumference of nine miles and thirteen steps. Mainly to prevent bandits and floods. This street is paved with bluestone and is called "Li San Chang Street". In the Qing Dynasty, a 40-meter-long stone slab bridge with seven holes was built on the Waimen River in Dongzhai, and Liu, a Tonghe native of Maozhou, Sichuan, donated money to preside over the construction.

During the Republic of China, Tonghe set up a township, which belonged to Tongzhaipu District.
