The Gushousheng Temple was founded in the Xianchun period of Song Dynasty (A.D. 1265- 1274), with a history of more than 700 years. It is one of the fourteen forests in Dongtai and the first of the nine temples in Qintong. In the old days, the temple was located in the southern suburb of Qintong Town, beside the Huangcun River. It is a thousand-year-old town famous for its water town and countryside. Because of its geographical location in the south, it is commonly known as "South Temple" by local people.

It can be seen from the "Water Cloud Building Map" drawn by the county annals during Jiaqing period that the temple was built on an island in Shui Ze, surrounded by water, and the fans set sail and played in the water, which was solemn and refreshing. The Buddhist Scripture Building (Yunshui Building) on the second floor of the picture is very spectacular and is an indispensable part of the humanistic heritage of the ancient Shousheng Temple.

In more than 700 years, the temple has thrived and abolished several times and reached its peak in the late Qing Dynasty. At that time, there were 92 rooms in the temple, and the front and rear entrances were Shanmen Hall, Tianwang Hall, Ursa Major Hall and the Tibetan Scripture Building (Yunshui Building).
