As a unique literary form, Spring Festival couplets have a long history in China. From the beginning, it flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, and it has been 1000 years now. As early as the Qin and Han Dynasties

Many years ago, every Spring Festival in China, there was a custom of hanging it at the door. During the Spring Festival, people will use two large mahogany plates with the legends of ghosts and gods written on them, as well as the names of Tu Shen and Lei Yu. This custom lasted for more than 1000 years. In the Five Dynasties, people began to question the language of the joint venture of mahogany panels, not the name of the deity. According to historical records, the theme couplet of Uncle Meng Zain (Chang) at the door of the bedroom on New Year's Eve is 964 AD, and "New Year, Changchun on the First Festival" is the first couplet in China.

In the Song Dynasty, it was common for people to hang Spring Festival couplets on New Year's Day. Therefore, Wang Anshi's poem "January Day" and "100 billion yuan pupils, the new is always replaced by the old" is a true portrayal of this kind of couplet. Because the appearance of Spring Festival couplets is closely related, the ancients also called Spring Festival couplets "Spring Festival couplets".

Zhu Yuanzhang strongly advocated couplets in Ming Dynasty. Later, in Jinling (now Nanjing), he ordered ministers, officials and ordinary people to write a couplet on the door before New Year's Eve. He wears casual clothes and travels from house to house. This problem is also linked to the gentle happiness of literati, and writing Spring Festival couplets has become a social habit.

The Qianlong, Jiaqing and Daoguang dynasties in the late Qing Dynasty flourished like couplets in Tang poetry, and many well-known names of good rights appeared.

Couplets were introduced to hotels in Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, Singapore and other countries for cultural exchange and development. These countries still have the custom of pasting couplets.
