In the first case, time is tight enough to go to only one place. Happy Valley or the Great Wall.

You don't have to leave the station to go to the Great Wall. Buy a train ticket to Badaling on S2 line in the morning and come back on S2 line in the afternoon. Not far from the station is the subway station. Take subway line 2 and get off at Dongzhimen. The exit is on the west side. Any exit is Dongzhimennei Street, which is the famous food street in Beijing-Guijie Street. Pick a beer you like. You have to take a taxi back to the hotel, about 25 yuan. It's only 20 minutes away.

To go to Happy Valley, take Metro Line 2, get off at Chongwenmen Station and take the northwest exit. There is a 4 1 bus nearby, and get off at Houfengqiao South Station, which is Happy Valley. Come out from Happy Valley at night, take Metro Line 2 back to Chongwenmen and go to Dongzhimengui Street.

In the second case, you can go to two places. Happy valley on the first day, go to the Great Wall the next morning, and return in the afternoon. Same route as above.

There are also many restaurants and open-air food stalls near Xizhimen, mainly concentrated in the vicinity of Xie Jie Street and Jiaotong University East Road.
