A complete guide to self-guided tours in Hong Kong recommended by netizens
Hello everyone, I have just returned from a self-guided tour in Hong Kong. Compared with the group tours I took to Hong Kong a few years ago, I feel better. Now I will share some of my experiences, hoping to give you some help.
1. Go to a local travel agency to apply for a Hong Kong and Macau pass. The cost is between 400-500, including application for the pass, clearance through the customs led by the travel agency and train tickets from the customs to Hong Kong. Please consult your travel agency for specific processing matters. The processing time will be approximately 4 or 5 working days.
2. Book a hotel. I compared China Travel Network, eLong and Target Travel, etc., and of course I chose China Travel Network! Because it has the most hotels in Hong Kong and the service is also good. However, because the website's introduction to the hotel was not detailed enough (I hope China Travel Network can improve it), I went to several local hotel websites in Hong Kong to learn about the hotel's basic situation. After careful comparison and search, I went to China Travel Network to make a reservation. It is recommended to choose a hotel near a subway station when booking a hotel, so that transportation will be convenient. I booked the Hyatt Regency Hotel, which is right on the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station. It is a five-star hotel with larger rooms and beds and better service. The room rate plus service charge and government tax is HKD 788. Recommended!
3. After the documents and hotel arrangements are made, book the air tickets to Shenzhen (it’s all discounted now, right?). Since self-guided tours must go through the port, you cannot fly directly to Hong Kong (unless you join a group tour, but it is not self-guided). I arrived in Shenzhen one day in advance and suggested staying in a hotel near Luohu Port. Since we usually gather at the departure hall of the port, it is more convenient. After gathering, people from the travel agency will take you through customs and issue you train tickets. After passing the customs, get on the train.
4. The train to Hong Kong is the Kowloon-Canton Railway, and the terminal station is Hung Kan Terminus. However, I suggest that you do not get off at the terminal station because there is no subway there. It is best to get off at the Kowloon Tong station in the middle. By car, you can take the subway that extends in all directions to all major areas in Hong Kong. Of course the first thing you do when you get off the bus is to buy a map.
5. The main means of transportation in Hong Kong are the subway and buses. The subway is the best, with six lines, and it is very convenient to transfer. The buses in Hong Kong do not announce their stops, so it is easy to pass them, so be careful. Don't rent it out, it's expensive! (Except of course when someone is chasing you).
6. Shopping. Before going there, I read the opinions of many netizens, and now I will share my own experience. I suggest you go to the big shopping malls in the main shopping areas of Hong Kong. The small streets are actually not as good as the street stalls in the mainland. In addition, I believe that the netizens who read travel notes online are not wealthy people, so I won’t talk about the Peninsula Hotel, Louis Vuitton exclusives and so on. I recommend a few shopping malls that are of high quality and low price (the price is relatively low) and have convenient transportation (all of them can be reached directly by subway):
(1) Clothes, shoes, hats and bags. Harbor City in Tsim Sha Tsui (500 meters west of the coastal defense road after exiting Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station), Festival Walk in Kowloon Tong, Times Square in Causeway Bay (some famous brands are still very expensive, just take a look) and Lee Theater Plaza next to it (mainly The items at Esprit are very cheap on sale. When I went there, the first item was 50% off and the second item was 10% off. famous brand.
(2)Watch. There are also shopping malls like those above, and there are also many specialty stores on the streets.
(3) Gold jewelry. Everyone knows Chow Sang Sang, Chow Tai Fook, etc., but their style is relatively old-fashioned. I recommend justgold to everyone. Its products are very cute, very kawaii and suitable for young people.
(4) Comics and CDs. In the Sino Center in Mongkok (600 meters south along Nathan Road after exiting Mongkok MTR station), there are several floors, some of which are like computer malls in the Mainland, except that they do not sell computers, but only comics and DVDs from Europe, America, Japan and Hong Kong ( Including movies and music for adults), the price is more expensive than in the mainland, but the variety and update level are much better than in the mainland.
As for electrical appliances and other gadgets, I feel more confident when buying them in the mainland. If you have time, you can wander around some major streets, such as Nathan Road, where there are many specialty stores of various brands. In addition, there is a magazine stall next to the Chinatown nightclub in Tsim Sha Tsui East that sells all the adult magazines I know. Fans can go and buy them.
7. It will take about two and a half to three days to go shopping. Now it’s time to go sightseeing. The time should be about two days.
Apart from the fact that the night view in Hong Kong is better than that in the Mainland (I think it is not as beautiful as the last time I came here, maybe because of the poor economy, some buildings have turned off the lights), there are no scenic spots that can compare with those famous scenic spots in the Mainland. scenery. But even though I’m here, I still have to take a look (the main reason is that I don’t have enough money and my feet hurt a lot).
(1) Ocean Park is similar to the amusement park aquarium in the mainland. You can watch the dolphin show. There is a direct bus next to Admiralty MTR Station.
(2) Taiping Mountain, watch the night view. Direct cable car access.
(3) Everyone knows about the Convention and Exhibition Center in Wan Chai.
(4) In Stanley, there is a Murray House. It is recommended to take a bus directly after coming out of Ocean Park. You can see Repulse Bay in the middle (you don’t need to go to see it, it is far worse than Yalong Bay in Sanya).
(5) The night view of Hong Kong Island can be seen at the Waterfront Park in Tsim Sha Tsui.
(6) To the Big Buddha on Lantau Island, take the MTR Tung Chung Line to the terminal and transfer to a bus.
8. Eating. In addition to acquaintances such as McDonald's, KFC and Pizza Hut, I recommend Café de Coral's Chinese fast food (available everywhere). You can order Poon Choi for just over 20 yuan per person, and you can also eat shark's fin for an additional 8 yuan! I warmly recommend Hong Kong’s Western dim sum, especially the cheesecake, which is delicious.
Hong Kong is generally good. The citizens are friendly and enthusiastic, the streets are clean and tidy, and everything is orderly. You only need to speak Mandarin to communicate with the service staff. It's just that their Mandarin is terrible, so you have to prick up your ears. In addition, in terms of currency, it is recommended to exchange Hong Kong dollars in the mainland because it has a large denomination and is easy to carry. Of course, it is best to have an international credit card.
I have been verbose for a long time. I hope it can be helpful to everyone. I wish everyone a happy stay in Hong Kong!
