What if I don't return my room card to the hotel after checking out?

Legal analysis: If you pay the deposit, your deposit will be deducted. If you don't pay the deposit, there will be no consequences, and your room card with you can't be used in the future. Or because it is too late to check out in an emergency, the hotel will assume that the parties will automatically renew their stay and use the deposit to offset the accommodation expenses. If the accommodation fee is exceeded, the hotel will clear the room.

Legal basis: Article 48 of the Civil Code of People's Republic of China (PRC). After an emergency occurs, the people's government that performs unified leadership duties or organizes the handling of emergencies shall immediately organize relevant departments, mobilize emergency rescue teams and social forces according to their nature, characteristics and degree of harm, and take emergency measures in accordance with the provisions of this chapter and relevant laws, regulations and rules. If a unit or individual, in violation of the provisions of this Law, refuses to obey the decisions and orders issued by the local people's government and its relevant departments, or fails to cooperate with the measures taken according to law, which constitutes a violation of public security administration, the public security organ shall punish it according to law.
