6S management experience

The 6S on-site management model has been proven in practice to be an advanced and practical on-site management system method. It includes six parts: sorting, rectification, cleaning, cleanliness, literacy, and safety. Its main function is to provide enterprises with Solve issues such as using good space, using enough space, keeping the environment clean, forming good habits, and paying attention to safety. The successful introduction of 6S can improve and enhance the corporate image, promote work efficiency, shorten the operating cycle, reduce production costs, and effectively ensure safety. It is a great thing that can improve social and economic benefits.

To achieve such a good situation is indeed not an easy task and requires our unremitting study and experience.

When I first arrived at the workplace, the various office supplies were not neatly placed. Some office supplies, books, materials, and personal items were placed together without being sorted and divided. This caused serious problems. It affects everyone’s work efficiency. After sorting, not only the space has been liberated, but also various items have been divided and labeled so that they are clear at a glance, which makes everyone feel much more comfortable when working and improves everyone's enthusiasm for work. It’s still the old saying: “The power of the masses is infinite.” When learning and practicing 6S, everyone should use their brains, actively put forward ideas and suggestions, and strive to solve the problems they face.

From a messy office space to an orderly work environment...everyone understands the principle of "no pain, no gain". However, this is only the result of the critical stage of 6S learning and practice. Today's results do not mean tomorrow's success, and a period of correction does not mean that excellent qualities have been finalized. The ultimate goal of 6S management is to improve the quality of employees, consolidate the results of hard work, and make excellent moral qualities habitual, so that the company can have a more brilliant future.

We must promote 6S at work and create a 6S environment everywhere and at all times. There is no best, only better, so that those who are lagging behind are often exposed to the advanced, those who are not paying attention can always see those who are paying attention, and those who are not too persistent can see those who will always persist, forming a good psychological supervision atmosphere.

Not only must 6S be implemented into action, but 6S must also be implemented like rules and regulations and implemented in a standardized manner. Our dress, work language, etiquette and other details must be cultivated. Let good things become systems and habits, which will inspire us and guide us to actively improve ourselves, continuously provide a platform for enterprises to introduce various advanced management concepts, and ultimately promote enterprises to become a modern company with advanced management, elegant environment, and first-class quality.

Management concepts or methods have their own specific environment or scope. If they are too expanded and generalized, their essence will inevitably be lost. This tendency also exists in the promotion and popularity of 5S and should be avoided. Judging from its origin, application and content in Japan, a correct understanding of 5S should focus on the clear theme of work site management. Only around this theme can it truly show its essence and operability, rather than some Vain or random slogans.

Elements and implementation points

Clean up on-site space and items 1. Remove garbage or useless and dispensable items; 2. Clarify the purpose, usage, and usage of each item. Classify the frequency of use; 3. Competence builds habits and awareness, and fundamentally improves the quality of personnel. Through publicity, training, incentives and other methods, external management requirements are transformed into employees' own habits and awareness, so that the above activities become Conscious action from the heart is the basic goal of work site management

The essence of 5S/6S is that it summarizes the key points of work site (including items, environment, places, etc.) management and integrates Philosophy of work and life. If you leave the subject of work site management, it is not easy to appreciate the conciseness, operability, and completeness of these elements. Without the recognition of the philosophy or concepts behind them, it is not easy to understand their importance.

A well-managed workplace has such basic characteristics as “clear categories, neat divisions, clearly marked, clean and safe”, which are also the basic goals of worksite management. The first four elements of 6S listed in Table 2 are the operational points to achieve and maintain the above-mentioned basic goals.

Relationship and Analysis of Elements

Cleaning, reorganizing, cleaning, and safety are the four basic actions in 6S to improve on-site conditions.

"Cleaning" is the source or beginning of improving the work site. When cleaning, you can also refer to the following more specific and operational classification management methods: Divide items into "commonly used, occasionally used, "Do not use Category Three", and then place 1. commonly used items on site; 2. place occasionally used items in fixed storage locations; 3. remove or dispose of unused items.

"Reorganize" is connected with cleaning. After removing unnecessary things, it is very natural to tidy up the site, including re-planning and arrangement.

"Cleaning" is best done after rectification. These three tasks are related and in order.

The element of "safety" is a supplement to the original 5S. To understand the theme of "key points of work site management", it is desirable to add the key point of "safety". Safety is not just awareness. It needs to be carried out independently and systematically as a major matter, and continuously maintained. Safety work often leads to big mistakes due to small oversights. Simply emphasizing awareness is not enough. Therefore, the author's position is elevated to "norms" and becomes an action element. The subsequent "norms" and "qualities" should naturally include safety norms and awareness, so that the "safety" element can truly be integrated into The original 5S system. Compared with the popular 6S formulation, sometimes it only emphasizes "safety awareness", juxtaposed with "literacy", and is not truly integrated with the 5S action system and philosophy.

"Norms" are management activities beyond the basic actions described above. For most poorly managed workplaces, the above-mentioned work is usually not given complete and systematic attention, or is done occasionally and cannot be persisted. When starting to emphasize and implement 6S, create some momentum and carry out some movements to get everyone to move and pay attention. As long as it is implemented effectively, the face of the work site can always be quickly changed in a short period of time. However, the disadvantage of exercise is that it comes and goes quickly. The good condition of the work site needs to be maintained at all times. From the perspective of management methods, if you want to maintain good practices and implement them for a long time, you should summarize the relevant methods and requirements. Come out and form norms and systems. Therefore, the "norm" in 6S is to transform sports into regular actions. It is necessary to summarize good methods and requirements, form a management system, implement them in the long term, and constantly check and improve. Some popular Chinese formulations refer to this element as "cleanliness". However, in terms of meaning explanation, many contents that cannot be summarized literally are added. This is really far-fetched in Chinese expression. This is related to the way of vocabulary translation. Based on various 5S materials, especially the summaries in recent years, "standard" is a more appropriate and widely used summary.

“Literacy” is the most unique element and the essence of 6S.

The first five elements are all very distinct "action elements". One to four of them are on-site improvement actions. The fifth element elevates on-site improvement to the systemic and institutional level, while the sixth element further rises to the human level. This is the fundamental consciousness. For people, the system is external and mandatory. A more thorough guarantee is to transform external requirements into employees' proactive and heartfelt actions. That is to say, changing regulations and demanding human consciousness and habits. Once the qualities are developed, they will have a subtle and long-term impact on people's quality of work and life. Literacy is built in people's consciousness, and improving literacy requires training, publicity, and the effective use of rewards, punishments, incentives and other auxiliary means.
