Has roaming charges been cancelled in China?

From September 1 2007, the three major operators, China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile, completely canceled the domestic long-distance and roaming charges for mobile phones (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan), and users made domestic calls at the standard package rate.

1. Roaming fee: refers to the fee to be paid when the mobile phone is used in the place where the mobile phone card belongs and occupies the mobile network resources in other areas. For example, if you are a Beijing card and use it in Xiamen, you have to pay roaming charges to call Xiamen, which will occupy the radio communication channel of Xiamen mobile phone.

2. Long-distance charge: refers to the charge when your phone needs to be transferred through the long-distance office. For example, to call Xiamen in Beijing, you need to access the long-distance office in Beijing, and then take up a communication channel from Beijing to Xiamen. There is a charge for occupying this channel.

The existence of roaming charges means that every time you make a phone call abroad, you will be charged extra. Not only that, if you make a call from other places, roaming charges will be superimposed with long-distance charges, so it is normal to spend tens of yuan on a phone call for an hour. For students, this is quite extravagant. Because the cost is too high, the country has to set the roaming fee as "calling 0.6 yuan/minute and answering 0.4 yuan/minute", but it is still very expensive.

The three major operators canceled the domestic long-distance roaming charges for 3G and 4G packages, and realized the national unified call charges. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's Economic Operation of Communication Industry in 20171-July shows that by the end of July, the number of mobile phone users of the three major operators had reached10.37 billion, and the number of mobile broadband (3G/4G) users had reached10.60 billion, accounting for 77.4%. In other words, the number of 2G users is about 3 1 10,000, and these users will benefit directly after canceling the long-distance roaming fee.
