What happened to the most unique criminal in Korean criminal history, a serial killer who killed for fun?
The smiling man in the photo took away the lives of 10 innocent women. He is not the most murderous criminal in South Korea, but he is the most serious criminal who has caused panic throughout the country. His name is Jiang Haochun.
In December 2008, a 20-year-old female college student suddenly disappeared in Gyeonggi Province, south of Seoul. After filtering and investigation, the Gunpo police in South Korea determined that this was a case of kidnapping, rape and murder, and arrested the 38-year-old suspect. Jiang Haochun. Unexpectedly, after rigorous interrogation, the police were shocked: Jiang Haochun admitted that he had killed seven women since the end of 2006. The seven dead women are all missing persons, namely Bae, Park, and Kim who were KTV waiters, housewives Kim and A, company employee Park, and college student Yeon. Police suspect that missing women were also killed.
Jiang Haochun explained that he had two methods of committing crimes: first, luring the victim into the bus at a bus stop, driving to a deserted place and raping him, then beating the victim, strangling him with stockings, and then burying him. A deserted field ten miles away from the corpse's residence. Second, he lured the waitress out of the KTV karaoke room, had sex and then killed her.
What is even more frightening is that Jiang Haochun is a typical morbid personality. There is no anger, excitement or other emotions in his criminal behavior, but he kills calmly. Just after he was arrested, he had eaten well and slept soundly, and he shamelessly said: "Confess as soon as you present the evidence." It was not until the DNA comparison was established and the victim's bones were exhumed that he confessed to the police: "Since the death of his wife, , I have wanted to kill women when I saw them for more than a year.”
In the history of Korean crime, there are many sensational serial murderers, such as Zheng Douying who killed 9 people, Liu Yongzhe who killed more than 20 people, and Liu Yongzhe who killed 13 people. Zheng Nankui, but Jiang Haochun is different from these withdrawn and vicious killers - he is a good man in the eyes of the world. Kang Ho-soon was born in a small village in Chungcheongnam-do, from a modest family. Neighbors recalled that he never made any trouble as a child and was very polite to the elders in the neighborhood. The teacher's comment to him was: he is good-looking and honest.
After graduating from high school, Jiang Haochun had a history of stealing cattle during his military service. After being discharged from the army, he worked on his own and worked as a truck driver, opened a rice sausage shop, and raised chickens and bees. Everyone who knew him had a favorable impression of him. Before the incident, he worked part-time as a masseur in a bathing center. According to the owner of the bathing center, he was a good employee: he dressed plainly, had good massage techniques, and was very attentive to people. Everyone has another side of the devil. Outside he was a good man praised by everyone, but at home Jiang Haochun had another face. He was married four times, and his first three wives all reported that he had violent tendencies during the investigation. His fourth wife lived with him for about three years and died in a fire in 2005.
In October 2005, Jiang Haochun's mother-in-law's house suddenly caught fire. His wife and mother-in-law, who were sleeping in the bedroom, were burned to death. Jiang Haochun and his son, who were sleeping in another room, survived. Firefighters said at the time that it was against common sense for Jiang Haochun not to save his wife immediately. Prior to this, Jiang had just bought life insurance for his wife. After the accidental death of his wife, Jiang Haochun received 480 million won (equivalent to nearly 3 million yuan) in compensation. After receiving this huge sum of money, he bought a store worth 220 million won and a high-end Equus sedan. .
The Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office in South Korea announced the latest investigation results in 2009: the deaths of his wife and mother-in-law were not accidents, but intentional homicide and insurance fraud. Counting this way, Jiang Haochun is carrying at least 10 lives! Ironically, when the police were at Jiang Haochun's home, they saw on the wall of the living room a motto Jiang Haochun used to educate his son, which read: "Worry comes from love, disaster comes from material desire, stain comes from rash actions, sin comes from being unable to bear it..." ”
After Jiang Haochun’s photo was released by the TV media, he became angry at the police for the first time: “How can my son live if my photo is published?” “He loves his son, so, What about the relatives and children of so many victims? After the Jiang Haochun serial murder case was exposed, it caused a sensation in South Korea. In particular, crime experts revealed that Jiang Haochun did not kill for money or for women, but just to satisfy "psychological needs" - in other words, he was a serial killer who pursued "the pleasure of killing", and was different from his previous life of poverty, sexual repression, and withdrawn personality. The serial killers are completely different.
Even Jiang Haochun’s family was “unbelievable” by his behavior.
His mother said in an interview: "Which parent could have imagined that their child would do such a thing? I have nothing to say to the people and the families of the victims." His brother solemnly apologized to the country: "He committed an unjust crime against everyone. A heinous crime that can be described in words. "This extremely pathological and special killer has triggered collective panic among Korean women.
It was reported at the time that many women were too frightened to wear stockings, boots and skirts: because police investigations found that Jiang Haochun was obsessed with such clothing and strangled his victims with stockings. A 20-year-old female student told reporters: "I now give up wearing stockings and skirts and only wear pants. I also took off my high heels and put on sneakers so that I can run faster whenever there is danger."
Statistics from South Korea's three major online purchasing centers show that since Jiang Haochun was arrested, sales of women's self-defense products have surged to 100%. The most popular products are pepper sprays and sirens. Even smart Korean mobile phone manufacturers have launched mobile phones with protective functions. This is the first time that a murderer has affected all aspects of Korean society, economy, and life. South Korea's judiciary has been severely impacted.
After Jiang Haochun’s brutal killings were exposed, “reinstating the death penalty” became the hottest topic in South Korea. At that time, in the comments on major portal websites, there were overwhelming calls from the public for his execution. Many family members of the victims even expressed angrily: "We will never give up if Jiang Haochun is not executed."
