Are Kowloon City and Kowloon Tong the same place?
Kowloon City is the main part of Kowloon City in Hong Kong. Located in the north of Matouwei and south of Xinpugang, it is mainly residential.
Kowloon City includes Kowloon Walled City Park, Carpenter Road and nga tsin wai road. Generally speaking, the former Kai Tak Airport was also a part of Kowloon City, but it was developed as an independent area after that day.
The most unique geographical feature of Kowloon City is the interspersed inner streets, one of which is shown on the right, and the crosswalk interspersed in the middle is nga tsin wai road.
As for Kowloon Tong, it is located in the north of Kowloon, and most of it is located in Kowloon City, south of Lion Rock, north of Boundary Street, east of Shek Kip Mei and west of Kowloon City and Lok Fu. This area is a rare low-density development area in the urban area of Hong Kong. It is mainly bungalows and villas, and its environment is quiet, thus attracting many upper-middle class people to live. There are many famous schools in this area, which is the main campus of Kowloon. In addition, this area is also famous for clock hotels and nursing homes.
Kowloon Tong covers Waterloo Road to the north of Boundary Street, including junction road and Broadcasting Road, and is bounded by the Kowloon-Canton Railway to the west. The area between Waterloo Road and Kowloon Tsai Park is called Kowloon Tsai and is generally regarded as a part of Kowloon Tong.
Because another village in Sham Shui Po in the west is also a low-density development area, and there is a station on the Kowloon-Canton Railway separating Kowloon City from Sham Shui Po, which is called Kowloon Tong Station, another village is traditionally regarded as a part of Kowloon Tong (just as the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Yau Tsim Mong District, the Kowloon Entrance of the Hong Kong Cross-Harbour Tunnel and the Hong Kong Coliseum are called a part of Hung Hom).
In 1947, "Jiulongtang" is the location of another village garden on the map. At 1964, "Jiulongtang" on the map is the location of another village.
/kloc-During the 1920s, the Hong Kong government developed Kowloon Tong in an attempt to develop the area into a low-density residential area. The area is dominated by bungalows and villas, and many trees are preserved, which is quite suburban. At the beginning of development, the area attracted many wealthy British businessmen to live in. In order to solve their homesickness, most of the streets in this area are named after English counties.
Jiulongtang Garden was built before the war, and there are still many houses with decades of history, even the earliest houses in the1920s when the garden was built.
Kowloon Tong Garden is the first garden built in Hong Kong with reference to the famous garden city concept of British planner Howard ebenezer howard. Some people say that this is a failed example, but it is also a rare villa-style residential area in Hong Kong. In view of this, the government has specially retained this feature, stipulating that the maximum plot ratio and the number of floors should be 0.6 and 3. So for so many years, the houses there are low-density. Because of this, it is impossible for those landlords to build dozens of floors more. Because of this, landlords can sell/lease their land to some hotels, nursing homes and wedding shops only by paving three floors, and because of this, they have gradually formed today's appearance.
1956, the Hong Kong Baptist College, which was built with land allocated by the Hong Kong government, started school.
1974 Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) set up a station in Kowloon Tong (now one of the stations of Kowloon-Canton Railway) as a interchange station for the Kwun Tong subway line after the completion of 1979. With the opening of Lion Rock Tunnel and Hong Kong Cross-Harbour Tunnel, Kowloon Tong has become the main channel connecting Hong Kong Island and the New Territories.
