The project is located in Gouqi Island, Shengsi, Zhoushan, which is known as "Little Greece" in the East. It is the easternmost inhabited island of the motherland, and it is a treasure island far from the hustle and bustle of the city and a four-hour boat ride.

The hotel base is located in the natural primitive cliff outside the Huandao Road in the southwest of Gouqi Island, surrounded by the bay, and the overall sea environment is relatively restrained and comfortable.

It is necessary to build a theme resort hotel with nearly 40 rooms here. However, the wild and steep terrain of the base is in sharp contrast with the calm ocean, which also provides tension for the design and brings opportunities and challenges to the hotel design.

"Invisible" Hotel

The ambition of human beings to transform nature has existed since ancient times. We live in a "visible" city, but we always live in the desolation of the future and the past at a certain moment. Many "visible" cities bring us disappointment and anxiety.

The design of cliff hotel also faced such anxiety at the beginning. Facing a deserted site, it is necessary to design an "invisible" city hotel, and the hotel itself is "invisible". In the planning conditions, the highest point of the hotel must be 1.5m lower than the island road, which means that only the roof of the hotel can be seen from the island road, and it is a hotel hidden in a cliff.

The transformation of the cliff will eventually form a new "artificial cliff". As an important element of the hotel, the guest room will become an element to shape the new cliff in the form of a unit, and will eventually be integrated with the cliff.

The cliff mountain exists naturally, and the project is affected by the site topography, so the units are scattered to the base from top to bottom. At the same time, the unit layout of the hotel should conform to the mountain shape, and the terminal space and each floor are superimposed to form a rich and interesting exit space, and at the same time provide tenants with a rich streamline experience from top to bottom.

Technology and challenges

Because the base is located on a remote island, it faces many uncertain factors such as factory occupation and geological survey, so it is very important to obtain accurate terrain conditions for project design.

This project uses UAV scanning technology to scan the mountain on site for many times, which can present the original appearance of the site in real time, which is beneficial to present and stay in all the processes of future construction.

At the same time, with the help of BIM platform of Archicad software, the design process enhanced the authenticity and landing of the building model, which became the first full-process attempt of ArchiCad project, and BIM model became the main carrier of subsequent hotel management data, so BIM model became the information carrier of the whole life cycle of the building.
