The history of Qingdao Signal Mountain

In November, 1897, when German imperialism invaded Qingdao, it first seized Signal Mountain as a commanding height, pointed its gun at the yamen of the Qing government's general staff, and forced the Qing army to evacuate. Later, the earliest radio station in Qingdao was established on the mountain, and a signal guidance station was set up to direct ships to enter and leave Jiaozhou Bay. Therefore, the German Governor of Jiaoao named the mountain "Cigna Mountain". After the Japanese army invaded Qingdao, it was renamed "Shenwei Mountain".

The application of advanced navigation technology has replaced the signal guiding flag, and the signal mountain has ended the historical mission of signal navigation. In 1983, the municipal government turned Signal Mountain into a hilltop public park, named Signal Mountain Park, which was completed in 1987. In 1989, the revolving viewing building was built.

Signal Mountain Park has a revolving viewing building, a signal mountain hotel and a signal mountain teahouse respectively, which is an ideal coastal viewing park integrating sightseeing, dining and leisure.

Signal Mountain, which is 98 meters above sea level and covers an area of 63,936 square meters, is a high-altitude coastal peak in Qingdao. When Germany invaded Qingdao in 1897, the earliest radio station in Qingdao was established here, and the mountain was named after the German commander "Dillis". After Japan invaded Qingdao in 1914, it was changed to "Shenwei Mountain", which was named Signal Mountain after liberation, and the Qingdao municipal government invested in the construction of tourist attractions.
