Capsule hotels originated in Japan, but they are not widely accepted outside Japan.

Capsule hotels in Japan vary in size, some are only about 50 units, and the larger ones can reach as many as 700 units, usually only for men. Some capsule hotels have separate rooms for men and women. Guests entering capsule hotels usually need to change bathrobes and slippers.
