Functions and uses of paraffin wax
1, used in various industrial production, is the most important function of paraffin, because the oil content is relatively high when pressed, and it can be used to make matches or tarpaulins. In industrial production, a proper amount of polyolefin additives will be added to paraffin to improve the melting point and flexibility of edible wax. The packaging paper and cardboard produced with this paraffin wax are moisture-proof and waterproof.
2. Paraffin wax can also be used to make all kinds of food packaging paper in daily life. When the paper for packaging food is embedded in the top ten, the waterproof property of the paper can be increased in the future, and wax paper for packaging food can be obtained. Packaging food with this paper is moisture-proof, and can also prevent food from losing its taste and increase the shelf life of food.
3. Paraffin wax is often used in textile processing, because adding cotton yarn to paraffin wax can enhance the elasticity of cotton yarn, and textiles made of this kind of cotton yarn will be particularly soft, smooth, elastic, look particularly high-grade, with high qualification rate, and are not prone to quality problems.
4. Paraffin wax also has strong heat storage function, excellent stability and no supercooling phenomenon, and is widely used in the production of high-tech products such as aviation, aerospace, microelectronics and optoelectronics. In addition, it can also be used in the production and processing of chewing gum, bubble gum and medicinal gold oil, and is an indispensable additive in the processing of these products.
Chemical properties of paraffin wax
Paraffin is a mixture of solid higher alkanes, and its main component is CnH2n+2, where n = 17 ~ 35. The main components are straight-chain alkanes, a small amount of alkanes with single branch chains and monocyclic alkanes with long side chains; The main linear alkanes are n-docosane (C22H46) and n-octacosane (C28H58).
Paraffin wax does not react with common chemical reagents, but it can burn. Catalytic cracking reaction can occur in industry. Paraffin wax has low chemical activity, neutrality and stable chemical properties. Under normal circumstances, it does not react with acids except nitric acid and alkaline solution.
