Kannonji in the East China Sea is small in scale and has a long history. According to legend, in the second year of Zhen Ming in the Five Dynasties (AD 9 16), there was a monk named Hua Hui in Japan, who had a great responsibility. He crossed mountains and waded for 998 1 day and finally came to Wutai Mountain in Shanxi, China, ready to invite one of them, a statue of Guanyin carved with sandalwood, to worship in Japan. The abbot of Wutai Mountain saw that Hua Hui was very pious and gave it to him. Hua Hui was very happy, with Guanyin in his hand, and immediately returned to the seaside. He set sail three times and wanted to cross Japan eastward, but was blocked by storms, clouds and iron lotus three times, so he had to sacrifice this Guanyin statue at the foot of the nearby Mount Putuo Shuangfeng. This Guanyin is very kind and decided to go to a place to help all beings. After careful consideration, Guanyin chose Fengxian Zhelin, known as a sage. So he used Buddhism and went directly to the present Gulf area. At that time, fishermen who were fishing and picking up seafood saw Guanyin slowly crossing Putuo Mountain, a "Haitian Buddha Country", and bowed down very devoutly. Then they joined forces to invite Guanyin to the seawall and offer it to a fisherman named Wu. The news spread, and fishermen from Fiona Fang Baili went to burn incense and worship. Since then, the Guanyin of Putuo Mountain has blessed good weather and smooth sailing. When the local people became rich, Qi Xin cooperated to build Putuo Temple. Guanyin is also particularly magical, gradually making the north shore of Hangzhou Bay a land of fish and rice.
