Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok is one of the two major international airports in Bangkok, Thailand. Suvarnabhumi International Airport is located in Bopiri District, Ripagan Province, about 25 kilometers east of Bangkok. Airport construction began in June 1960 and lasted for 46 years and 3 months. It is the longest airport in the world, also known as Cobra Airport. On September 5th, 2006, the airport officially started to operate limited domestic routes, and on September 28th, 2006, it opened most domestic routes and all international commercial routes. The name of Suvarnabhumi Airport was chosen by King bhumibol adulyadej, which means land of gold.
