1997, American Carnival and British Airtours acquired 50% shares of Costa Cruises respectively. The two new shareholders enhanced the investment ability of Costa Cruises while maintaining its position as an Italian enterprise. In August 2000, Costa officially announced the order for the sister ship "Costa Mediterranean" of Atlantic. At the end of September of the same year, Carnival Group acquired 50% shares of Costa held by Airtours and became the sole shareholder of Costa. In the same year, Costa ordered two new cruise ships from Fincantieri Company in Sestri Ponente, Genoa: the Costa Fortuna and the Costa Marchi card number.
