What is the Chinese meaning of Shangri-La? Where did it come from?

Shangri-la, translated into Chinese according to the meaning, should mean Xanadu.

The origin of the word Shangri-La is:

James hilton, an American English writer, published a novel The Lost Horizon on 1933. The plot of the novel is: the protagonist Conway and others are hijacked by a plane and land on the desolate snowfield. In the "Blue Moon Valley", they met English-speaking aborigines and took them to a place called Shangri-La. There are sacred snow-capped mountains and glaciers, green grass and flowing water, which set off the blue sky and white clouds. There are herds of cattle and sheep on the grassland, and all ethnic groups live together for generations, blending with each other, without soldiers, police and sin. Just like the Garden of Eden in people's dreams, it is beautiful, bright, safe, idle, leisurely, satisfied, quiet and harmonious.

There is also a word in Tibetan called Shangri-La, which translates into Chinese and means "the sun and moon in my heart".

For more than half a century, the whole world has been looking for this uncontested pure land on earth. According to the description in the novel, the scenic features of Shangri-La are: blue sky, white clouds, snow-capped mountains, canyons, grasslands, lakes, glaciers, forests, temples, prayer flags, highland barley racks, manidui, yaks, Tibetan mastiffs, Daphne odora, buttered tea and earth palm houses. These are actually the border areas of China, Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet.

Yunnan Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and Sichuan Daocheng applied to change their names to Shangri-La County almost at the same time, but Diqing Prefecture took the lead. With the approval of the State Council, Zhongdian County in Diqing Prefecture was officially renamed Shangri-La County in February, 200 1.

No way, in 200 1 year, the Sichuan provincial government had to rename Ziwa Township under Daocheng as Shangri-La Township.
