History of Jinta Ancient Pagoda

According to the documentary records and the investigation and appraisal of ancient architects, the Golden Pagoda was built in 998, the first year of Song Xianping, and it is the earliest existing ancient pagoda in our province.

Architecture.

In the early Northern Song Dynasty, Buddhism flourished in Wuwei County, with many monks. So a temple named Nantai Temple was built in Taihu Lake (now Xihe River), and then a tower, the Golden Pagoda, was built in the temple, forming a large-scale Buddhist building complex. However, due to the changes of the times and the destruction of war, Nantai Temple and Jinta also experienced turmoil, from prosperity to decline, leaving only one ancient pagoda.

Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it has been repaired in Hongwu, Qin Long, Wanli, Kangxi and Qianlong years, making the ancient pagoda safe and sound.

From the late Qing Dynasty to the founding of the People's Republic of China, due to years of disrepair, the masonry at the lower part of the tower fell off, the tower was damaged and cracked, and the vegetation was overgrown.

During the "Cultural Revolution", thanks to the protection of the local people, it was saved from disaster.

198 1 year, the provincial government announced the Jinta as a provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit, and allocated huge sums of money for comprehensive mapping and repair of the Jinta. Now the Golden Pagoda has become an important cultural relic and tourist landscape.
