Sichuan University of Arts and Science was founded in 1976, formerly known as Daxian Teachers College. 1978 was officially incorporated into the national full-time colleges and universities with the approval of the State Council, and 1993 was renamed Daxian Teachers College. In 2006, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was officially upgraded to Sichuan University of Arts and Sciences. It is the only full-time undergraduate college in East Sichuan.

The college is located in Dazhou, an important town in eastern Sichuan, at the intersection of Hunan-Chongqing, Dacheng and Dawan railways. National Highway 2 10, 3 18, Dayu and Dacheng Expressway run through the whole territory. Heshan Airport can fly directly to Chengdu, Xi, Wuhan, Guangzhou and other cities, and the traffic is very convenient.

The school has jointly organized postgraduate education with Youshi University in China, and established cooperation and exchange relations with more than 10 universities in the United States, Britain, France, Australia, Czech Republic, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos and other countries.
