Jiangsu Second Normal University is a provincial-level ordinary undergraduate school featuring teacher education and focusing on training primary and preschool teachers. The school's predecessor, Jiangsu Institute of Education, was founded in 1952, which was one of the 17 public undergraduate schools established earlier in Jiangsu Province in the early days of the People's Republic of China.

The school began to hold undergraduate education on 1959. 20 13 Approved by the Ministry of Education, the school was transformed into a provincial-level ordinary undergraduate school and renamed Jiangsu Second Normal University. At present, there are 14 secondary colleges and 32 undergraduate majors, covering 9 disciplines. There are two campuses, Shiqiu and Caochangmen, covering an area of 7 1.87 million square meters.
