Daohou Hot Spring Museum: Oil House

Tang's oil mill is the most important and dreamy scene in the whole movie. Chihiro met Grandpa Boiler, Xiaoling, Kaonashi and Bailong here, and a wonderful story began.

Daohou Hot Spring, located in Songshan City, Ehime Prefecture, Japan, is one of the few well-documented prototype oil houses. It is said that after visiting Daohou Hot Spring, Spirited Away's film crew drew a sketch of the building here as a reference for the oil house. Taiwan Province's Jiufen and Chongqing's Hongyadong were misinformed, and Miyazaki Hayao himself came forward to refute the rumor.

Edo Tokyo Architectural Garden

In an interview, Miyazaki Hayao revealed that the background of Spirited Away's story originated from his childhood memories. The "Mysterious City" in the film is described according to the Edo Tokyo Architectural Park, and the purple treasure soup in the park is one of the officially recognized sources of inspiration for the oil house.

The stationery store next to Zibaotang, Sanshengtang of the Fifth Bureau, is the place where Grandpa Boiler works in the film. I have to say that this wooden chest of drawers full of walls has been restored in the film, as if I could see Grandpa Boiler's busy figure.

In the Edo Tokyo Architectural Garden, there is still a tram parked. In fact, before Shibuya Station, it was already running between the Second Bridge and Kanda. This is the prototype of Chihiro's water train with Kaonashi, not the Sri Lankan seaside train.

The splendid interior design of the oil mill refers to the Muping Yasu Garden in Tokyo. The creators moved the carved corridors, painted columns, gorgeous lights and rare treasures of Yasu Garden into the animation, and the extremely lively oil room in Spirited Away was thus created.
