Historical background

In 634 AD (the eighth year of Zhenguan), Songzan Gambu sent envoys to Chang 'an, hoping to be close to the Tang Dynasty, so as to strengthen ties with the Central Plains and gain political and trade benefits. At this time, Emperor Taizong simply looked down on Tubo, a barbarian country, and flatly refused. Songzan Gambu flew into a rage and sent troops to beat Tuguhun, who was sheltered by Datang and unable to shelter the princes. Four years later, Songzan Gambo invaded the Tang Dynasty, threatening to capture the princess if the Tang Dynasty did not send her away.

At this point, Emperor Taizong had no intention to compromise. Instead of sending a princess, he dispatched troops urgently, recruited the East Turkistan and Tiele ministries to gather troops for rescue, and the result was a heavy defeat. Since then, Songzan Gambu has been harassing the border of the Tang Dynasty, and Tang Jun has repeatedly lost and fought.

In 640 AD 10, Songzan Gambo sent envoys to Chang 'an to find relatives. Although Emperor Taizong was very opposed to this marriage in his heart, the situation was urgent and he finally had to give in and "marry" Princess Wencheng.

This is the so-called political affinity, for the sake of national stability, sacrificing women and traveling all the way to a foreign country. However, on second thought, under such circumstances, is it considered as "getting married"? It should be humiliating peace!

Entry into Tibet

According to historical records, Jokhang Temple was built in the same period, but its scale is larger than Jokhang Temple. There used to be a saying that there was Jokhang Temple first, and then Lhasa City. Jokhang Temple is considered as the world center of Tibetan Buddhism. At that time, the 12-year-old statue of Sakyamuni brought by Princess Wencheng was enshrined in Jokhang Temple, while the 8-year-old statue of Sakyamuni brought by Bhrikuti Devi was enshrined in Jokhang Temple. After Princess Jincheng entered Tibet and kissed, the position of the statue of Sakyamuni enshrined in Jokhang Temple changed.

marital status

Princess Wencheng has been in Tibet for many years. She has no children or pets, and her status is average. On weekdays, she serves Songzan Gambu like a maid. It is quite different from the lofty, graceful, noble and respected image of the motherland in the eyes of Tubo people.

Princess Wencheng's life is quite unfortunate. She lived in a distant country for 40 years, but she was a widow for 365,438+0 years. Most of her youth was buried in the snowy plateau. Even in the nine years before Songtsan Gambo died, her marriage was by no means happy. Songzan Gambu, who is old, has six women with birthright and countless women without birthright. How much can she care about Princess Wencheng? Princess Wencheng has been married to Songzan Gambu for nine years, but only three years have passed. Many times, she was left out and forgotten. Obviously, she is not favored.

So the Potala Palace was really built for Princess Wencheng? Or was it built for Bhrikuti Devi, also from Nepal? We don't know these things, and we can't completely draw a conclusion. Perhaps there are other real reasons that we don't know, waiting for people to explore.
