You have to understand what kind of lens you urgently need, and it doesn't matter what kind of lens is worse. If the focus was on 50mm, I would never choose 50mm/f 1.2L USM. As the cheapest fixed-focus lens in the world, I have more than 600 pieces of 50mm/f 1.8 (although poor) to choose from. If I want to be better, I still have 50mm/f 1.4 USM to choose from. If the budget is sufficient, choose 16-35, and vice versa.

Of course ... there is another option. I just introduced 16-35, I love the white rabbit, and there is a mysterious lens called 24-70 mm/F2.8L II USM. These three lenses add up to a big ternary. This single lens, with a focal length of 24-70mm, can give consideration to humanities, landscapes, sketches and portraits. There are different views on imaging. Some people have commented that this is a junk lens, but you can't deny that the focal length of 24-70mm can meet most of your daily shooting needs, and the constant aperture of 2.8 will make you more handy in the medium focus theme. Most importantly, when traveling, sweeping the streets, or taking a Cosplay at a comic exhibition, it is enough to take this lens, and this focal length is more suitable for novices than those "more professional and more expensive" lenses, and the price of 1 1999 is also cheaper, isn't it?

What about the final conclusion? As a novice, it is best to choose 5D3 directly with a 24-70mm/f2.8L type II USM, which is enough in most cases.
